This is the long overdue build thread for my car, it's a 1983 Turbo I bought for $860 in early 2010. I was in a really ****ty place in my life and I had always wanted a black 244 turbo, before I had made the mistake of buying the first black 244 that came up on CL. This time I went with the first turbo car I found when I had the money, barely missing out on the same year car with a m46 for $500. This car is probably the reason I am typing this here today, I am the 13th owner and I plan on being the last. I've had 5 cars since this one, many were cleaner shells, more reliable, but this is the one I will keep.
Here's what it looked like when I got it home:
of course it wasn't hassle free
at this point I didn't know a lot about cars, I thought it had a blown headgasket because it boiled coolant after you shut it off. Turns out it was just the water cooled turbo. It sat for a while and I added single rounds and a flathood. Also junkyard IPD bars around this time.
virgo tires were worn so I got some coronas for $60 with good tires
Installed IPD lowering springs but they were for a wagon, gave it a funky stance. Sachs touring struts and used HD rear shocks. IPD firewall braces.
muffler fell off
headlight grills and hella lights
new wheels
replaced a fender and got the hood painted
Swapped dashes
broke status
redid the interior, used dash, some leather replaced, back seats replaced etc VDO boost gauge
did this with the badges, it became TurD
rebuilt a gt grill and put it on
added some euro turn signals before Davis 2012
got a rebuilt garret t3 for cheap and a ported 90+
ran black hydras for a bit
rallycross carnage
some point in time prior I got the right rear springs
got an atp gate with a 3'' dp and a Kaplhenke brace, ran open DP for almost a year. added AEM wideband too
got TSW Hockenheim R's with 32/38mm adaptors
wasn't low enough so we installed homebrew coilovers thanks to Cameron. 250lb H&R springs, Koni Red struts, Kaplhenke top hats, summit sleeves. Rear was cut wagon springs
needed more lights so I did this
replaced the 205 tires with 215/45/17's for very cheap, $300 installed. dropped the car on some 200lb RSI rear adjustable springs and added IPD adjustable panhard and torque rods to get everything smooth.
