Very nice! The car looks really clean. Is everything stock or is there mod's?
It makes me want another one. I once had a '68 144 that was far less clean, but ran great, a road demon. I had the exact same fog's in the same place but yellow, a classic look!
The dash looks fantastic, a lot better than the stock S dash. A nice touch would be to instal a clock from a late '70's 240 into the fuse panel, something I did and looked like it belonged there.
The wheels look good too. Are they the Volvo Vigra 15's or after market IPD's? I ran and the IPD 14's then some Laguna 14's and the car handled great.
Haven't seen the engine stabilizer mounted in front like that, I had the rear bolt type.
Nice car!
Well... everything is stock volvo parts
Upgraded 4 wheel disk brakes, b20 with the E? (injection) head and cam, M41 tranny, 164 leather interior, misc volvo suspension, and volvo virgo wheels.
later glass and doors.... Thats all I can think of off the top of my head
I want to run some of these wheels in 17's
And swap the springs maybe from V-performance for stiffer handling and to bring down the nose for more of a rake, I also thought of swithing to ART's shockwaves :king:
I really want find another one to gut and go more performance oriented and let the wife drive this one.
Sounds good, a nice combo. You mean it didn't have 4 wheel discs as stock set-up? Thought they all had that (140's)
Other things that will really improve the performance: get two K&N air filters from a '84 Toyota Corolla, they fit nicely in place of the stock filters a will get you about 10 hp gain. Either tear apart the stock SU filter caps and spacers or make up some yourself. The K&N are a bit larger diameter and flow much better.
What needles do you have in the SU's? With that set-up you should be using DX or RR, not the stock SM needles. Leaner at idle is DX, full-out performance w/1200 rpm idle is the RR.
I had the Volvo R-sport progressive springs on mine as OE, along with the R-Sport DeCarbon` CO2 shocks. Better than ANY other aftermarket spring + shock combo. Makes Coni's seem like riding on peanut butter.
I had broken one spring while traveling up the Taconic Pkway in upstate NY at 90 mph with my canoe on the roof and broke it on a turn. I was surprised to find them still available through Volvo special order. I put a new set of spring and shocks all the way around for about $650. That was in '90. What do you have for a sway bar? I had stock 22 mm R-sport front and IPD rear bar.
Hey, I like the 164 seats. I had '82 240 GL leather seats and a 164 M410 OD tranny in mine.
Man, there is just something about those early 142 models. Such a nicely balanced and attractive design. They truly are a forgotten Volvo and that's a shame. I'm glad they aren't forgotten in our group.
That's a great custom/stock look you've got with that car. I bet per capita with our members we have the largest enthusiast group of people that have and like these cars. Happy rolling!
For those of you who didn't know it snowd in Texas, here's the 242GT last Saturday. Yes, it's still there in Feb. Notice the IPD Penta Sport 14" wheels........
