Well I definitely don't want to do something incorrectly especially in these early stages of the engine assembly...if I do, I would have to take the engine out again. So I appreciate all these hints what I could do better
But yeah, last time I sealed the head halves without the roller and it was running just fine, with no leaks etc. And on disassembly I saw that the sealant was spread evenly across the surfaces of the oil passages with minimum overhead, so I believe it would have been just fine as well

It's the oversteer that scares passengers. It's the understeer that scares the driver.

if its fine for you, then it is fine, but i suggest anybody to do it with a roller.. you can easily overdo with the gue and a blocked oil passage is the **** if you could have avoid that with a 3,50€ roller :b

What kind of roller do you use? I cannot find anything car specific, is that just a normal roller for painting walls?

I used a small roller for painting walls. Something like this:

Not much has been done as I have been spending time on some amazing hiking trips around the world...but at least something. The rusty master cylinder has been visually irritating me for some time as it was the only remaining rusty thing in the engine bay. Originally I just wanted to repaint it but lately I've decided to replace it...to make sure the old seals don't let me down.

Old one out

New one in

I have bench bleeded the new one, also I've bought the pressure bleeder so I just need to get some brake fluid and bleed the system again.
