Ok, here's what I've ordered so far:

...I have a blow off valve here at the house that should work.

I also was planning to weld a 2.5" to 3" reducer cone straight to the exhaust flange, slashed at an angle so it pointed slightly down. From there, the muffler shop can handle the rest of the 3" DP.

What will I still need to sort out, or what might I have forgotten? I need cheap and easy...and I can't fabricate things myself. Anything I missed?

Most of it is dry iced off. Just requires labor hours that could be spent welding down pipes/intercooler pipes to other peoples cars. I will trade my time for his if he is up for that.

heat gun, putty knife...mine almost fell right off

so how they hell were you going to get that adapter to fit between the manifold and strut and still fit the turbo on there? or are you building a manifold?

If you are going to weld anything to the turbine housing weld a 3" vband right to the back

Either a big hammer, or cut a section out of the strut housing and re-weld. ;-)

I was gonna put the V-Band clamp at the end of the pipe...I was thinking of the "turn-down 3" transition pipe" as more of an extension/part of the turbine flange. It will be about 5-6" long, so I don't have to worry about one extra crush bend in the DP.

Alrighty...a couple status updates.

Since the IPD cam was installed, we also put in a 15G an a full 3" side exit setup. The car definitely picked up power. However, I realized that the welds on the diff broke. :-P

So the diff came out tonight to inspect the carnage. Wasn't so bad. We'll be re-welding the diff tomorrow, and re-installing with a 3.73 rear end instead of the 4.10's.

We will also be installing a 19T turbo, instead of the T3/T4. Mainly due to simplicity of install, and budget constraints.

The thing I'm most excited about is fuel though. I'm gonna run an "E42.5" blend, on 48 lb injectors. This was decided after much deliberation on parts required to run E85 straight out the pump, as well as availability. This blend should net 98 octane AKI. The 48's were too fat with the 15G setup...it bogged up top. So the combo of the 19T and the ethanol mixture should lean it up enough to run the 48's successfully, and bump up the octane in the process.

Interesting note...on paper, there's a near-linear relationship between injector size and ethanol blend. Mike was running 75 lb injectors with E85, but getting a little lean, and is bumping up to 95 lb injectors. (75+95/2 = 85).

I'm gonna be running E42.5, with 48 lb injectors.

So...running an ethanol blend of E50 should require appx. 50 lb injectors, and so on. Which seems to work all the way down to E30, and stock 30 lb Turbo injectors, as my research found that people with standard gas engines run up to E30 pretty commonly with no ill effects.

However, the fun stuff doesn't come without maintenance...my rod bearings are making all sorts of noise now. :grrr: So the pan gets dropped tomorrow or Saturday for that as well. I was hoping to run the car on Saturday but I don't think she'll be ready in time. Oh well...better safe than sorry!

you need to be putting a lot of weld on the spiders. like.. unable to tell they were ever spiders to begin with melting **** together welds.

Diff is re-welded, and it looks MUCH more stout than before!

19T is in, 48 lb injectors are in, 3.73's are in, E40 blend is in. Took it around the block, maybe 3-4 miles. Will need some time to learn the new setup, but it feels promising. I'm pretty confident it should run a low 13. Though, I think I'm leaking from the rear main, and the oil return. Bad enough to where I can't drive the car much until I fix the leaks.

I'm moving all weekend, but next week I'll sort out the leaks and get some more miles on the car. The plan is to run it at the 1/8 mile on Thurs night.

Some almost but not quite recent pics...

Nice headlight. How do you like the speed daddy turbo?

Haven't run it yet; that will be the "down for the summer months" project. I may end up installing that turbo and a T5 trans at the same time.

I should be able to get high 12's on the turbo I have right now, so we'll see what happens!

It's light for a Volvo, but it's only semi-light compared to a lot of the competition! Those damn kids racing their gutted Civic h/b's and CRX's can get well under 2000 lbs. :(

I weighed the car with the passenger seat still installed, so the actual curb is perhaps ~25 lbs less (I haven't weighed the pass. seat yet), at 2,575 lbs.

I would like to get it to 2500 or a little below, so now I'm gonna have to start getting creative. Removing the bumper shocks, cutting out some sheet metal, and maybe replacing some window glass with a plastic alternative. Maybe a light weight battery sometime in the future.

The power seats in the 740/940/960 are HEAVY. Like 65lbs each. Going to manual seats definately drops a lot of weight.

Yeah, certain little jap cars can get down to under 2000. I think I heard one dude at the track say they had one down to 1600lbs.

civics start out around 2500 or less. some of them rolled off the factory floor at around 2100-2000
