Default Anyone ever had luck tracking down a sold car?

About 10 years ago I sold my beloved '89 240 to a woman in town Concord NH as I was living in Boston and the only time the car ended up getting used was to switch sides of the street for sweeping. It needed to be driven and I didn't want to just let it sit. She said she was going to give it to one of her kids for college. Sold it for $750, at the time the market for 240s was pretty terrible and it hadn't reached "cool old car" status quite yet.

Present day - I've moved back to NH after living in Japan and have learned to wrench and really work on these cars. Found the bill of sale with VIN while sorting out old stuff and wondered if it might still be on the road out there. Ran a carfax, and aside from a service at a shop in upstate NY right after I sold it, nothing at all for the last 10 years. I know the car was driven for at least a few years as friends always would call when they saw it around town.

Has anyone ever tracked down and repurchased an old car? I have the VIN and not much else...

You might be able to go to your local MVD and pay a small fee and they can provide the address of the current title holder.

Should have sold to an acquaintance, friend or family, they're easier to track down. Otherwise report it as stolen and put out an APB

The cheaper these cars get sold to random people, the faster then end up In the junk yard! People buy cheap cars beat on them and neglect them and then scrap them bc they had nothing vested in them!

I hear they have really put a crimp on finding cars by VIN in most states.

A Carfax or such may turn which state it is in.
