Leave the housing alone. The glass is held on with double sided tape. Once the glass is off you will see screws that hold a small motor. Remove the screws and remove the motor. GL
 
On my first Bertone the mirror silver had failed aroung the edges and complete replacement was quite a bag of bucks.

Mirror surround and motor were fine. I bought about $2 of 1/8" Lexan from the helpful hardware person. Cut, sanded it to match the outline of the failed mirror glass. Just so happened that front/rear of the Lexan matched the left/right glass profile. Local mirror shop cut/ground/sealed mirror glass and I double back taped it on.

No one would ever know.
