for 1988 740 turbo wagon, is it a mitsubishi? garret?

Look for a metal tag on the turbo. Usually will say Garrett/AirResearch or Mitsubishi/Made in Japan. If the two halves of the turbo are bolted together, it's Garrett and if the two halves are held together with a large clamp, it's a Mitsu.

those year Mitsus (if not all) came with the CBV on the intake housing.
if u see a round "thingy" with a thin hose running to the intake manifold u got a mitsu. but the thingy has to be on the turbo, not on the side...
