Volvo speedometer's calibration has always been 3%-4% conservative so I bet your car with 185-70-14's is a little bit off.

I think most all cars come from the factory that way too.

FWIW, Ken, I checked my 91 240's speedo with my GPS again. According to the GPS, my speedo is dead on.

I checked it at 45,55,60, 65 and 70 mph. As close I can tell and as close as I can get speedo needle on the numbers by playing with the Cruise control on the hiway. And I did a good job of it too.

When the GPS says XX mph, the speedo says same. The 240's is probably the most accurate speedo I've ever had in any car I've ever owned.

It almost seems as if Volvo made the speedo to read accurately with 205/60/15 s on Virgos.

How can GPS and radar detect machines say it's precisely spot on when your using a larger tire diameter as proven above?

Also, I'm curious how bigger rims can increase tire diameter?

Mine was 10% fast. I went a total of 10% bigger so it now reads spot on.
Easy, peasy.

Hard to see the difference with crappy phone pics. But I polished the lip today, not super shiny, but enough. Putting tires on tomorrow and hopefully sitting on the car this weekend
