Wait, you killed another one? Seriously dude, if that's the case you need to check the control circuit on it. They aren't a common failure fan...

Brake booster repair attempt #1 Not sure if the new booster will fit. I'm working on eliminating this (seemingly) one year only booster that has a weird adapter on it

The brake booster swap was mostly a success This car really is unique in a lot of ways that aren't fun for maintenance Turns out the rod that interfaces with the master cylinder is different on this car, hence the weird spacer that looks OEM to me If I change to a different master cylinder I'll have to swap the rod back again. Wasn't a big deal, but I think I will write an article on this phenomenon and my solution to save someone else from this headache :P

Swapped out the broken glove box and lower trim for a fresh one from a 940. Learned that the 940 glove boxes are smaller inside. My owner's manual doesn't fit!

I really wish I had asked you about it before Figuring it out feels good, just took a while.

And in true fashion, I fix a bunch of things on the car and the passenger front window stops working

On the bright side I put in all the lighted window switches. The little things really keep me motivated I think there was a thread about making the auto function work on the driver's window.. anyone remember that?

Requires some relay trickery to make it work.

Window issue...did you get the right switch in the right spot? Swap the left and right, the right side window won't work. Again, BTDT, traced my steps a couple times before I caught it.

When I was dealing with the master I ended up finally hitting up a forgotten parts supplier in town that actually knows **** is different so he was able to get the right master without dicking around with it. Then my booster went out a year later, back to finding one with the correct orientation. JY unit over reman for that so I could get one that didn't leak out of the box. lol

I had no idea they were side dependent. How very Volvo The window did work at first and then quit after the first test drive. Weird

You'll need the wiring and auto-down relay from an 850 to make that work.

Only the fronts are side dependent. Check the pinout on the bottom, the driver side has a pin the passenger side doesn't.

Right on, thanks Kardboard!

So I fix the window switches (thanks Gary) and then the cruise control quits damn car. The diaphragm and line look fine..does the CC have its own relay I should check? Going to work through this article for now:

Oil change this morning. Spent the early afternoon deciphering the different types of window switches. 3 different switches shown in various stages of disassembly

After many blunts and a lot of staring at the switches, I decided you can just solder the switch as I did here. The solder nearest to the bulb is where it needs to be done. The solder to the left was just to reinforce a connection that looked near breaking. I'll make a little write up about how to make them work in the driver's door. Thanks Gary for pointing out the difference! I'm no electrician so my solder work will improve over time. Time to start looking for some 850 auto window relays

about the cruise control: I remember retro fitting a complete set into my 940lpt.

in a CC equiped cars there is a cut-out (vacume?) switch below the brake pedal.
In a manual trans car the clutch pedal also has a second switch below the clutch pedal.
Both switches can and need to be height adjusted in such a way that they only break contact/vacume whenever the pedal is pushed in.

In an earlier post you mentioned that you replaced the brake booster + the pushrod between pedal and mastercylinder. maybe one of those switches is no longer adjusted correctly because that pushrod effects the resting position of the brake pedal. Making the CC system inoperable.

solution: re-adjust cut-out switch on the brake pedal. Let us know if that fixes the CC.

picture of the setup in a 850 but in a 740/940 it's very similar:

Every time Janspeed posts in my thread I think "Oh great...what did I do wrong?" I understand what you're saying about the switches breaking contact. It will be until Tuesday before the car and I will have any significant down time. Honestly, thank you for sharing! I am sure you are helping more than just myself
