Muellers '78 242 project, warning, it's ugly right now :)

Hey Aaron great to hear from you.

A couple of other 914 guys are here on TB, I spoke with Mark D last week, he supposed to be heading on down here to pick up the remaining needle roller bearing suspension parts I used to make.

Plans for your 242?

/Hijack

I still have those Advan Tires i picked up from you. The 205's may make it onto the 242... LOL.

Planning on dropping a 91 940 turbo motor, and a T5 trans into it.
I spent last weekend replacing all rear suspension. New bushings, lowering springs, koni yellows, torque rods, panhard rod....

Next weekend I tackle the front.

Goal is to make a wicked fun daily driver.

I will run (registered on the streets) by the end of 2015:-P

I'm shooting to at least be able to drive it around the block by the end of June...it'll still be ugly and and an eyesore, but I'm past the point of caring what it looks like!

I don't think I'm going to be running fully by the end of the month as planned unless I hit the lotto so I can afford the parts and the time off work!

Slowly making progress...fixing my own mistakes!

Most useless thing ever made for a 240? Removable panhard mount bar.
Yep, I can lay claim to possibly the lamest, worst thing fabricated for 240..why?

'Cause there is nothing wrong with the factory one, I just had to cut mine off in my poor planning and grand plans of doing an IRS. I still have 50% of the parts for the IRS, it just needs to be put on hold for a while.

The 2 red dots are where I think I'll mount an angle to tie in the mount a little better...I'll do it for both sides and weld in a threaded insert into the frame.

I already don't like the mount and have redrawn in my mind how I'd redo it, I'll run it for now just to get the car turned around so I can get the motor into it and see what happens.

Finally have the car sitting on all four wheels and tires!

Spent way too much time installing the parking brakes, finally took a dremel to a set of needle nose pliers to make it easier to grab those pain in the @#$ springs. Adjusting the parking brakes.

Realized I cannot find the stock components to mount the rear springs for the suspension, so I got a little creative with some cutting tools and welder. Yes, that is a water pump pulley, perfect diameter for the rear springs.

QUE?

Rallycar-streetracer-IRSnightmare-trackslut-trailerqueen,dieseldog, what's it going to be THIS week?

One full week and I haven't changed my mind...hahaha

Rear suspension all installed, brakes and ebrakes..diff fluid filled up! Now to finish up the front suspension so I can bleed the brakes.

Spent some time at the wreckers on Saturday, picked up all new-me hard lines for the brakes except for the 2 super long ones under the cabin, mine are okay.

I didn't grab a bunch of the little brackets for the lines for the rear end and cannot find mine, so I hit up the scrap pile in the garage....

Still undecided on the front suspension shock/insert wise, I have a pair of Bil HDs that need rebuilding and a set of DeCarbons that need rebuilding.

Picked up some later model year front struts, one of mine still had the smaller diameter spindle.

And I thru one of the strut assemblies on my press and moved the spindle up 2" from stock...

Finally, making some progress on the 242 again...this is the B230FT that I got in return for the D24T that I realized wasn't the brightest of choices to install in the car. Perhaps for someone else, just not me!

Machined a new T5 to redblock adapter plate, the 1st one I did had no centering lip which was not a good idea.

The motor looks good inside, I am going to replace most of the seals and throw on a new head gasket and rebuild the turbo. Since I have to smog this car and most likely have to take it to the CA BAR, all stock for now.

How exactly are you going to attach a ball joint to the bott of that strut tube?

If you have a solution for that, it'd be pretty cool. 2" of drop, but maintaining stock suspension travel.

Most of the hardware from the motor and other bits sent off for a yellow zinc plating and oven bake...hope to get it back late next week.
