Car won?t start, backfires out of intake. Please help!

When mine failed, it was the rotor. Center of the rotor was caved in...the plastic broke and the metal piece could no longer pass spark through to the cap.

Now I carry spares.

They'll run even with a cracked cap, but after it rains, it might not run so great.

Happened to me too. Cap cracked at the center and it barely ran home. Like it was on 3 cylinders. Took me a while to see it and when I did, I kicked myself in the knee. It's always the easy stuff.
