I'm new to Volvos. We got this wagon with 234000 miles on it about 6 months ago. It has a funny quirk that's getting annoying.
When it's hot and sunny out, my '87 240 DL Wagon's overdrive doesn't work. The orange "up" indicator arrow stays on, and there is an electric buzzer noise coming from the dash near the fan switch. Is there a relay for the overdrive in there somewhere? If I push the overdrive button, the buzzing stops, but the arrow stays lit and there's no overdrive. I can sometimes make the overdrive work by smacking the little tray on the dash downward with my hand. It's kind of hard on the dash, so I want to make the problem go away.
When the air temperature is cool, the overdrive works normally.
Is there a known ground issue with the overdrive wiring?
Thanks for any help.
