Andrewhans 240 LS Swap, Going for 8's

More carnage photos. Got the motor pulled today. Been lazy about it because I don't have the spare engine at my house yet and still need to buy the cam and oil pan.

Got the new short blocks, new pan is coming soon, new cam is already in the garage.

Plans for 2019 are 6 point cage, 15x8 wheels, billet 7875, gen 4 rods and pistons with a gen 3 5.3 block/crank, bigger cam(228/230 sloppy stage 2).
Goals for 2019 are 9.5's at around 145mph.

Building a buddy's car first. It's Chevy Caprice with a gen 4 rods and pistons with a gen 3 5.3 block/crank, s475, th350, with a microsquirt on e85. Should be a fun street cruiser. I need to get his car out of my garage before I can really move on mine.

Ok... so...

Got my buddies car out of the garage.

Got the "new" gen 4 5.3 guts in the "new" gen 3 block along with the sloppy stage 2 cam(228/230)

Motor went in without issue. New bigger cam and a bit more displacement and the engine fired right up on the old tune. Excellent oil pressure on all old bearing, doesn't burn ANY oil even with re-used rings from a different engine.

Drove car around tuning it a bit to get the fueling right after whacking the whole map with 8% of fuel to make sure it was safe. Fueling was coming in great and car is absolutely making more power than before.

Rolled into around 60mph, boost came in hard, car spun a bit around 80, pedaled real quick, got back in it, car spun a little bit again around 100mph, pedaled it, car hooks up and I let off around 120 or so. When I let off the engine just drops straight to idle even though I'm still in 3rd gear.

After a couple seconds 3rd gear re engages and a few second after that the trans starts making a gawd awful noise while in 3rd... great lol Limp the car home in 2nd which is still quiet. So I pull the trans the same day and get it dropped off at my trans builders house.

He pulls it apart and find a broken as hell sprag lol. Upgraded 36 element sprag just showed up to his door today so hopefully I can get the trans back either tomorrow or Saturday so I can race on Sunday.

We'll see though! Never a dull moment haha

I can't even comprehend what that would be like. Glad to see this back to being one of the fastest cars on here.

It's a LOT of fun lol Especially coming from a 300whp AWD Subaru as my previous "fast" car. Just keep in mind the road was cool and only around 60deg or so. When it gets hot out or after a few good solid hits on the road the tires hook up much better. I can usually do a 60 roll and have it hook up and just moves out with very little drama involved.

I can't wait to get the trans back in the car. Just got word from my buddy I should get the trans back tomorrow and then I need to install it and get the car up and running again by Saturday so I can drop the car off to my other friend and have a 4 point roll bar put in for safety.

Man, your car sounds like a monster! I need to pick your brains a little bit before I start my swap.

Fun fact though, if you Google Map Kenly, NC, the street view is set to a white 240 parked at a Dairy Queen haha. I just thought that was funny.

Picked up the transmission last night. New clutches, steels, bushings, internal seals and an upgraded 36 element sprag(broke the stock one all to hell). I found a deal on the sprag($336 shipped) and he only charged $500 for all other work completed.

He let me know that my trans is now built identical to the one in his nitrous LS S10 that's been 5.42@132 @ 2900lbs on the footbrake in the 1/8th. He hasn't burnt up any clutches or broke the 36 element sprag so I'm very confident I'll be fine with my power level(about 250whp less than him). I'm still in the slow category IMO with a 6.5 @ 113mph lol

Going to thrash tonight after work to get the trans in and car back on the ground. There's been some **** talking on the local 1/8mile page about some street cars. I'm gonna try and quiet a couple people down a bit on Friday night. We'll see though lol

PS my personal best was actually ran at Coastal Plains in Jacksonville. It's one of my favorite tracks to run at bc they are lax on safety but have really good track prep. Drove an hour and a half home after that run to "prove" my street car status lol.

That's pretty cool. The local track(Wayne County Drag strip) is only 8 min from my house. On quiet nights I can hear them racing. It's where I do the majority of my testing.

New idle. Slightly more aggressive than before. I love it.

And after picking up the trans yesterday night. The car is ready to have its wheels put back on and be driven again. I love the way the engine sounds.

still a steel drum? I've had great luck with the 34 element setup from 4L80's

Sounds absolutely amazing bro. Maybe I've worked with only trash people in the past but your Trans guy was pretty quick on tackling that haha.

I've lived in this city on and off for 11 years and I still haven't gone to Coastal yet and my house is no more than 10 minutes away, just never been around long enough to finish a build to bring out there.

Next time you head out to any of the tracks let me know, I would love to see this thing move.

I might be running at Nahunta Friday night. About an hour and change from Jacksonville.

Yeah he is very good and knows how to setup a trans.

Got the car running and drove it to work, even got lunch with it. I really did miss driving the car.

Nice shot of all important info while driving down the road at about 60mph.

Was able to take it to the local 1/8th mile track and I did a new personal best ET and 60'. Really wasnt expecting that as normally this track does not hook well at all.

Turbo is out of breath for sure. 21psi is giving me 230 IAT's. Luckily e85 and my air temp correction table kept me safe but that's why the mph is low. Most of my passes I was commanding 14ish degrees and was only getting 8-9ish after air temp correction. Those 5-6 degrees account for a BUNCH of power being left on the table. Probly 3-4 mph in the 1/8th at least.

1/4 track and not pulling timing this would have been the 145mph pass I was looking for lol. Gives me hope for the rest of the year as the temps drop.

Got a good video from some friends that where there.
