Thanks guys, appreciate the kind words. Sort of expected to get yelled at

It's definitely fixable, hell, the tow driver was drooling over it before I even showed him what was under the hood.

Still, it felt a little like taking a dog to the pound instead of training the damn thing.

Not sure what life holds next. Pondering doing the body/paint on my Buick, but ugh, I hate finish work (which I suppose this thread has illustrated nicely )

Sue? Sheesh, I'm glad the horse I spooked with my nonsense didn't break a leg. The property isn't abandoned, but it's definitely... "legacy". Yooge custom homes on one side, oddball spec on the other, older ranch-style houses on 1/2ac lots the rest of the way down the street.

The only way to drive that car is with a bee in one's bonnet. I got stung.

Hagerty. Yep, salvage value was 1,300, and I toyed with buying it back. Then I came to my senses. Sure it was worth that and then some, but ... so what? Then I'd be right back where I was, with a ratty roddy thing that I didn't really want to play with any more.

Pictures still show the 5.0 goodness.
That is one helluva way to sell a car, I must say. I will have to try that method next time. What did $5K buy for the 'vette?

New wheels and tires ate most of that 5K.

Two hours left to bid!!! It's only $375!

No clue. Some of the cars on there look like regular car auctions:

https://www.copart.com/lot/29544010
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-Toyota...0AAOSw4zJeTsjT
https://www.daltonpikemotorsllc.com/...d-49-556-miles

No clue why it's on Copart. It's not the sort of place to attract a high bid on a rare, unwrecked car.

That sounds like more than a junkyard would typically pay (I think?), so maybe it will go to someone who wants to fix it.

Wow. Another chapter in life, and no less exciting.

I was sad to hear of the demise, hoped someone would be able to salvage parts, since you had a lot of Unobtainium in there (both the 60 yr old and 30 yr old stuff.) It's a good thing I've been too swamped to chime in, or I would have learned of the Coparts auction. That would have presented a dilemma, to put it mildly -- it's a cool car even in slightly reformed condition, but for me there's still very limited parking lot and playtime.

Too late to comment? Maybe. But it's worth acknowledging one vote of thanks: you single-handedly put that car on the map, for me. Partly (mostly?) because of the 5.0 shenanigans, of course, but when I started looking into it, even the 4-cyl version seems interesting. Prior to seeing your project, quite literally my only PV exposure was the world-famous picture of Gunnar Andersson's airborne method of winning the Midnight Sun rally. Attention grabbing, yes, but nothing else in the photo seemed like my cup of tea. I like terra firma.

In hindsight, it's especially weird that I never noticed the PV series at all, since I've long been enamored of what sorts of vehicles lend themselves to horsepower and RWD, brainstorming on examples that might be slightly smaller than the average muscle car but not into the ridiculous territory squeezing a hemi into a Yugo or whatever. (Now that I've written that, I suppose someone is going to demonstrate a streetable example.)

If/when I ever do something similar with light weight and high HP, I'll choose sleeper over rat rod, and will probably focus on double overdrives to see what type of fuel economy is possible. That ought to shake up the hot rodder establishment.

I must agree that your logic is sound on all counts.

Whoever purchased, I'm hopeful they discover this thread in order to better understand all the time/effort that's in there. It's been an amazing journey, and we are the beneficiaries. Thanks for sharing.
