I've seen thermostats fail like that, but not on a Volvo. Best wishes for your mom. I can't wait to see what else gets pink treatment.

So its a little off topic, but its the reason why i haven't made progress. I found a nice 1990 740 turbo wagon in the neighborhood and made an offer and got it cheap.

It was sitting for 4 known years but jumped and started right up. Barely chugged home, but I'm surprised it even ran.

Replaced/Cleaned it all up and it runs like a champ! I can finally ditch the Ford Explorer DD.

I had a little time before school to paint my valve cover.

Ive been spending a LOT of time at school carving a wood block and finally finished and got it printed. Should have some more free time coming up now that thats over haha.

Its 8ft wide by 4ft tall...huuuge.

For a size reference, they had to use a steam roller as press a to print it. Kinda cool its a Volvo haha.

It actually might make a really awesome headliner!

All thats left is to prep/paint the bay, put the engine together, and drop it in. Then i can be on the road again!

Made some more progress tonight. Timing cover and backing plate were too dirty to put the rest together.

Finally coming together...

Yeahhh, i found that out haha. Im still gonna try to use it as an oil cooler.

Midnight purple would look kinda cool. Not sure where you would find that color high temp paint though.

Anyone install one of the round-toothed blue Gates Racing timing belts? Mine seems like the distance between the teeth on the belt are closer together then the teeth on the camshaft gear.

*edit* I found out why the belt won't fit...i assumed the round toothed belt would fit on the square toothed gears but turns out (who woulda thought) it won't haha.

Got the timing belt on and the intake manifold clean and bolted down.

Ive also been prepping the bay for paint but don't have pictures. My goal is to be on the road by November 14th. Gotta put in work!

After a long fight with the exhaust manifold studs, i put in some fresh ones and mounted the manifold and turbo.

I also got the oil feed line on and mocked up the return line. Gotta do the rear main seal and the crankshaft cover gasket before i can put the oil pan on.

I was thinking about an easy way to stiffen up my engine mount/s and a friend came over with his old 240(sx) homemade hockey puck mount. Its two hockey pucks back to back with a hole drilled through the middle and a bolt running through them. Turns out they're the exact same size as the original passenger side (US) mount only not made out of jello. The bolt he used had a standard nut but it turns out the locking nut from the old mount fit it as well so I'm using that one.

Ive also been working pretty hard to remove my fingerprints...

No power sander or sanding blocks around...figured id just stick it out. Almost done, then bondo time and some more sanding. (everything that looks like rust...IS rust)

I had a question and maybe someone on here knows a way. The top by the cowl has rusted these little holes through and i was trying to come up with a simple way to cover em up and smooth em out without knowing how to weld. I used a JB weld and thin metal sheet method to patch holes on an aluminum boat hull that i was thinking might work her but it most likely won't be too smooth.

Getting close...little over a week left...

Thats kinda what i was thinking, but not with bondo (since I've never worked with bondo before and wasn't sure if that would work). I used fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin on a spot on my hood when i got the car but it didn't feel strong enough. I ended up using this strong mesh cloth i pulled outta some concrete board and "gluing" it in with the bondo. Feels strong and it should look decent with some sanding and paint.

Before sanding...

mbolton1990: Im actually missing two of those multi-x wheels but I'm not too worried, they're really small haha. Thanks though!

740atl: It really has been! Probably not worth the time and money to most people, but I'm learning for the next one haha. Thanks, I'm liking the pink more and more. I'll admit, I was definitely skeptical at first haha.

Well it's been a pretty productive weekend so far...

I painted the subframe and stuff with a "rust killing/preventing" paint

I finished sanding and masking the bay

Which led to this...

And then this...

Im pleased with how my first time spaying went. I definitely shoulda taken everything out though...not enough space for the gun in there.

I also started cleaning up the rest of the aluminum parts with this little guy

Almost ready to drop the engine back in. Just gotta dress it up real quick.

Man, this is pretty cool. I dig the bay color. The pink is going to pop once you put the engine back in.
