Tires for OEM Polaris wheels

Just wanted to get some input from people with original Volvo Polaris wheels experience. Want to go with the widest tire I can fit without any fender modifications. Rolling would be the only exception. I've read 235/45/17 fit without issues on a non-rolled fender.

I know 17" tires aren't plentiful with the variations of sizing. So I understand my options will be limited. Will likely shoot for 235/40/17 toyo proxes 888r.

And I am not opposed to using spacers, probably these if I run spacers at all. https://www.kaplhenke.com/collections/240/products/240-extended-wheel-studs-wheel-spacers just not sure what width I can run.

On a 240 I presume? I fitted 255's on my Eiker Polaris replicas at the back of my 740 but I believe they are a tad wider than the Volvo Polaris.

17 inch tires are pretty common, I don't know why you said they're not plentiful in sizing. Also, since the oem polaris are only 7 inches wide, I probably wouldn't go any wider than 225.

I assumed 17" tires had the widest variety of sizes available.

I think these days its 18s, but there's still a lot for 17s.

225/45/17. Best combination of availability, fit on a 7", ride comfort, wheel protection, appearance. Might take a little roll on the rear lips above the mudflap.

235/40 are pretty short. Fine on 7.5" and lowered.
235 are too wide for a 7" wheel, but will certainly go on.
235/45 gets kind of tall and will need some rolling most likely.
245+ are way too wide for the wheel and non-rolled fenders in rear.
215/45/17 fits well on a 7"
205/45 is short.
215/40 is really short
205/40 is super short. I used this size briefly on 17x7 Titan wheels...because the tires were free.

I work at a regional tire shop. My location keeps around 1200 tires in stock. 16” and 17” are king when it comes to variety and range of sizing. On a given day, probably 40-50% of the cars and trucks have 17” wheels. 18” wheels are becoming more common, but due to the proliferation of compact cars with common tire rolling diameters around 24-26” inches to fit in the small wheel arches, 18” wheels will probably not be as common as 16” and 17” wheels.

Towery pretty much nailed it. 225/45/17 come out to a 25” rolling diameter, which is ideal for speedometer and odometer accuracy and general performance in our RWD cars.

That said, in my experience 215/45/17 are MUCH more common, at least as a factory-installed size, so may be easier to find in a pinch if that matters to you. I can only think of two or three car models that I’ve installed 225/45/17 tires on as a stock size on stock wheels.

215/45 is the original size for Polaris but 225/45 fits nicely too. 215/45 "requires" lower suspension than 225 to fill the wheel arches properly. On a 240 I think 225 should require only slight trimming to the lip of rear arches. 225/45 is a good size for 700/900.


I've used 215 front and 225 rear. 215 front mostly because it's so low that 225 will rub.

Thanks for your input, the car will be lowered but not drastically; looking for function over form on this 242.

I always opt for 225 45 17 for anything that is 7 or 7.5 wide.
