Okay, so after a combination of letting Brett touch my car(a sad consequence of my ignorance), and a reputable machine shop basically ruining my block so the head gasket can't possibly seal against the deck, I kinda got fed up with the car and let it sit. Eventually the fuel in the lines got old enough, and the battery dead enough that it wouldn't run, and anyway, it burns oil and mixes the oil it doesn't burn, into the coolant.

I put about 400miles on the car before I mothballed it. Here's a video of basically the closest thing I have to a speed trial from that period. It was running at 7 or 8psi, and from 35seconds to about 1 minute you have a good wide open throttle and cruise down period:

11/19/12:: I cut some valve pockets into the pistons today on a stock n/a squirter block I pulled from...if I remember correctly a '92 240.

Hopefully, I'll never need the meager protections that these valve pockets provide but there you have it: a bottom end to bolt stuff to.

11/26/12:: I cracked open the "old" bottom end, cleaned up the combustion chambers from the head, transferred over the arp studs, and generally started the task of transferring everything over to the "new" bottom end.

Got some "life" on the horizon so I may not get to work on this again in earnest for a couple weeks but um...I think I'm still on track to drop this back in and get it smogged by the end of the year.

12/8/12:: Starting to look like a motor. Been side tracked, and will be side tracked with work and holiday stuff, but it's just a matter of plugging away at it a little at a time:)

12/15/12:: Ready to drop back in:) I've already taken care of putting in 3/8" fuel line from the under-carriage pump forward (I'll replace it from that back to the tank later) so once the engine is back in the bay I'll take care of fuel lines and I think maybe take it for a drive?

12/16/12:: engine is in the bay. Trans bolted in with a new mount. I'll spend the next week hooking everything back up and hopefully crank next weekend.

12/22/12:: Oh hey, look at this! Tomorrow I think I can crank this bitch for the first time in 2 years:) I need to connect the fuel return line to something and calibrate the FPR...that's it!

11/22/14: Wired up w/fog ecodes and 4series side markers; fixed 95% of the vacuum leaks and made sure all grounds were grounded; car started up if a little unhappy. still has 95lb injectors but now has a 16v mapped lh ezk chip. Wasted a bunch of time trying to figure out what's wrong with the LC1 wideband. have decided the controller is bad.

11/29/14: Thelostartof put 65lb injectors in in the intervening week. Put back together the center console and hung the doors, feels like a real car again. cut out the second 'shelf' of the intercooler support bracket that supported the radiator. Since replacing the turbo radiator with an NA one, the added depth is no longer necessary, and it caused clearance issues. Designed, bent, welded up, and mounted a new totally awesomer bracket to hang the NA radiator from the intercooler.

12/7/14Replaced timing belt, rerouted and replaced fuel lines between FPR and rail. replaced soft trans cooler lines with hybrid soft and hard lines. Installed Innovate MTX wideband. Installed grille. repaired 960 arm rest. Drove the car a few miles around the block and exploded the heater control valve.

12/13/14Sorted out heater bypass, put a little more interior back together, 'fixed' (in so far as butyl tape will last) exhaust leaks, mounted tires and wheels. Car has a hunting idle and intake leak at the throttle body bolts. After this, a bit of driving should see it ready for an MVD emissions test.

You know, I have no idea. of the 4, it had the highest compression, and it also had the "nicest" combustion chamber as far as ease of cleanup (thin, evenly deposited carbon that was very easy to get off). In contrast, the cleanest cyl (1) had the absolute worst combustion chamber, with at least a full 1/32" of carbon built up on each valve face. Very strange. 1 also tore up the bore walls, lots of nice scratches up and down it. You can see them in the pics from the album in post#2

What's really odd is that before I ran the car for 400miles to the given results, cyl 4 actually had a big ol' scratch in the wall...that scratch is completely gone.

Also of note is the oil-water sludge coating the inside of the water jacket of the block, and the radiator.
