1987 760 aw71 in 1989 740

Yes, as long as the 760 has a redblock motor. (Some 760s came equipped with a V6, and there may be differences in the transmissions.)

Current Cars:
1987 Volvo 740 Sedan ~180k - awaiting complete disassembly and scrapping

1989 Volvo 740 Turbo Intercooler Wagon ~155k - hardware store mbc + 4.10 final drive + horrible fuel economy + dead blower motor = favorite daily

1995 Volvo 940 Sedan ~183k - undecided fate (too nice to scrap, too boring to keep, too archaic to sell)

The 760 Turbo has a redblock, as far as I know all of the non-turbo 760s have the PRV V6, the bellhousing for those is different.
