M46 sounds like a blender in O/D

86 744 Ti M46 trans

In 1st 2nd 3rd and 5th the tranny is super smooth. In overdrive it is also super smooth. Both under full acceleration and deacceleration. Smooth. But it sounds like nuts and bolts in a blender in o/d. Mainly on deacceleration. The faster I go, the louder the noise. It's REALLY loud with tranny shifter boot off.

Is this normal? What could it be? Low tranny fluid?

Any help would be great.

I'm confused as to what you are referring to "overdrive." As far as I know 5th gear is the overdrive box.

Yes 5th.

Check it, change the fluid at least and clean the OD screen.
