S/V/C 2004 V70R auto shift linkage

I've been driving my dad's 2004 v70R for the last week, and yesterday the stupid yellow plastic pawl/hook that wraps around the shifter broke. I have removed the trim and shift knob and am trying to determine how I am supposed to remove the plastic "gate"/ cover that gives the shift pattern.

Do I have to remove the 4 14mm bolts at the base of the entire shifter?

You just pull up on it, it's clipped on @ four corners. You have to pull ridiculously hard, like you're going to break stuff.
Then have fun if (when) the head of the pin that retains the pawls you are replacing breaks off. One of life's simpler pleasures for sure.
