How can one be expected to pay $616.00 to replace the rear glass (windshield when driving in reverse) when the whole car cost only $500.00??
Am I missing something or is this a bear of a job to replace.

Probably best bet would be to find on at the JY. What’s wrong with yours?

I’m actually thinking of finding one that doesn’t have the third brake light, not looking forward to that...

EDIT: wagon or sedan?

It's a 89 sedan and has a big crack that started as a BB gun hole done by others:omg:

I've never seen a 7/9 series wagon that didn't have a third brake light but I guess its possible. My 87 245 has a third brake light but my 83 doesn't. I prefer no third brake light.

Apparently I can order the glass without the light (I imagine they have plenty of them). I?ve only seen a few cars in the U.K. without it. But having the spoiler brake light will make the default lower one a bit redundant...

Just because the you would only pay 500 dollars for car doesn't mean its cheaper to make, ship, and sell a window for said car.

Yes obviously. This is a mechanical thread, not the wise ass remark thread, just asking for help on replacing a rear window.
You can thrash me on the modification side of things.

It basically costs the same to replace the rear window as most cars, Glass is not any cheaper, labor is not any cheaper. Thats why so many people sell older cars so cheap. Repairs are too high a percentage of the total cars value. You may be able to save money by taking the old one out yourself and doing the prep.

Thank you for some sensible advise. The car is near mint other than the glass.
