Factory Tach

are all the 240's prewired for the factory tach? i found one real cheap i mite buy to get rid of that rediculous clock. but i want to know if it will work. i have a 89 240 dl wagon.

This guy sounds like me:) Hey, when you're putting in the new tach, don't be discouraged by having to take out the instrument cluster. It's not as hard as it seems.

I was told they're all wired for it, but I could never find the wire. It's pretty dang easy to make a new wire anyway. The tach plugs into the socket where the clock went, and that takes care of two of the 3 connections. The only one you need to actually hook into the back of the tach is the coil signal wire. You can just attach a wire to one of the coil's accessory terminals, then route that into the 3rd plug on the back of the tach, and voila you have your signal.
