I love this thread. (lets be clear, I don't love the car)
And I'm pretty sure that the buick engine was a V6, was it not? and Rover bought the rights to the motor so they wouldn't have to reinvent the wheel making a V, and proceeded to add 2 cylinders and redesign a bunch of stuff differently, once they had the backbone of basic design from the buick motor.
Maybe I'm thinking of something else though.
