Is there anyone that can tell me how to test a tone ring sensor on a G80 with a multi-meter to see if it's working... I'm trying to retro an electronic speedometer and I cant tell if I have issues with the sensor or the speedo?

EDIT: woops you mean the actually sensor. Makes more sense as its hard to **** up a tone ring. I dont have access to alldata when I get to work tomorrow I can look it up. My guess is you want a 2-5V signal every time it passes a vane. Thats how most magnetic sensors operate. Is the speedo innop? or inaccurate?

Im not getting any speedo... but it's a retorfit... nothing is original on my car... however, I can't tell if it's my wirirng... (been a problem in the past) or the speedo, or the sensor? I was hoping to put a meter to the two sensor wires, and go for a test drive to see if the sensor is ok... just not sure what I'm looking for, or how to set the multi-meter?

Next, hook up the volt meter to each terminal on the sensor, and simply turn the wheel. Set your volt meter to DC (V with the dashed and solid line above it). You should see a DC voltage of a few volts every time you pass a vane on the tone ring. The faster you spin the wheel, the more constant the voltage will be. I'm not sure what voltage exactly but its usually not more than 5. Since your speedo is not working at all, if there is any voltage you should be able to eliminate the sensor as a suspect.
