Question msd 6a on 744 tic

Ok, so finally got ANOTHER MSD coil and its time to hook up the 6A box at last.
so for the wiring, it seems pretty straight forward..but i have a question.
the heavy black and heavy red wires are accounted for, same with the orange and black (those go to the coil).
this leaves the white wire and the red wire off the 6A box itself.
MSD's website says to put the red wire to a switched 12v source, and that the white wire is only for another MSD accessory? it also says if i DON'T use the white wire, i have to use the violet and green magnetic pickup connector? this is where i am confused!

So is the magnetic pickup connector (violet and green wires) an optional thing, as well as the white wire?

Lastly, what do I do with the original positive and negative wires that are currently connected to my stock coil?

OR, to answer all my questions..can I just put the red wire (12v switched) to my original positive coil wire, and the white wire to my original negative coil wire?

red to old coil + white to old coil -. did you get a tach adapter? if not you can use an old coil. just wire it in like the directions say to wire in the tach adapter

It puts a load on the trigger system so the factory stuff thinks its doing something. The white wire trigger takes the high current pulse, but puts no load on the sytem. other wise your car may not run proper.

Okay, that makes sense. So do I need to buy something else then? I was told to put the white wire to the old coil negative lead.

You don't need the adapter. My car has run fine w/o it for the last 8k.

White wire goes to the power stage. I believe it's blue.

dose your tach work? so you bypass the ignighter. never thought of that. since you are going that rout, i wonder if you could use the purple/green wires that would normally go directly to the dizz pick up?

That is what I've heard, but since posting this thread I have heard 4 different people tell me 4 different ways to install it.
So whats the consensus?
White wire to the old negative for the coil?
Whire wire to the ignition power stage?
White wire to the ignition amplifier output?

No idea what the ignition amplifier output is, or WHAT wire you are saying to put the white wire to on the ignition power stage.

Ive done it with a Street fire Box from MSD its the old school version of the msd6a. Same wire setup.

Off of the power stage you have two red white wires coming off port 1.

One is thin and goes to the Tachometer.
One is thick and goes to the neg post of the volvo coil.

Remove the thick one to the coil. This thick red-white wire now goes to the MSD white trigger wire.

Why this way?

You have lh2.4 , LH2.4 is triggered by the crank position sensor. The computer than sends this signal to the Power-stage via the gray wire that goes to pin 3 and 5 of the power-stage.

The green and violet wires are not used. If you had a distributor with a hall sensor then they would get used.

Proof mine was setup this way before i went to Megasquert.

Or just keep it simple, use the exiting coil - and coil positive.....this way you can diagnose any ignition problems by bypassing the msd box and running the coil like normal. Try it without the tack adapter...it will either run or wont. Then install one if you need.

I'm with you Mike.

Take the simple and keep it simple. White wire to the red/white at the coil, red wire to the blue wire at the coil. Leaves you a 100% functioning backup plan if the MSD dies, simple to wire.

As for the tach adapter, save yourself some cash.

The First direction sheet that MSD has is all you need. Here let me circle the KEY words for you here.

IF you can not figure it out from there then please put down the tools and go do something that requires less brain power like playing with yourself.

Yes I am having a bad day but holy hell guys come on, there are few things easier than this.

Eggggs-actly.

I'm running an MSD6 box on my car (MS, 16VT) and just unplugged the wires on the coil and hooked them to the msd input, and ran the MSD output to the coil, and hooked up the heavy wires. Easy to put in, easy to bypass if need be (just unplug the msd input and return those wires to the coil terminals).

Makes it easy to run it back to back and compare to see what difference the MSD box makes.

Hooked this up today and the car loves it. However, now the tach doesn't work. How do I hook up the tach adapter?
