...This happens:
Completely my fault.
1990 744 Turbo.
I turned a corner in a small crescent that was completely covered in black ice, went straight instead of around the corner, then fishtailed, tried to correct, jerked the car, and skidded straight into a streetlight pole. It happened so suddenly, that I don't think I could have avoided the situation, and I was even sporting the magnificent Hakka 5's.
And then it got worse:
The street pole then fell over, and landed on a truck parked in the driveway of a house. Fortunately there was so much snow around the base of the pole that it's fall was cushioned, so the truck only has a small dent where the pole hit it. I got off lucky there. But here's the unlucky damage:
And then the pole/truck damage:
Then I lifted the pole as the truck's owner moved the truck forward (As you can see, the pole is just resting there in the air; It was still connected at the base, but fortunately didn't short out):
And here's a comparison shot of when I first got the car, and a reverse image of the current damage:
So fortunately there is no mechanical damage on the car. It still runs fine, drives straight. The plastic bumper is of course cracked, but the lower front spoiler is fine. That can be salvaged. The hood closes, but has a small dent in it. Of course, the headlights/grill are out of place, since the steel bumper (Or rather from what I've learned, Impact Absorber) has been misaligned.
So I've sent my claim in, and I have a week before it has to get appraised. Hopefully the repair costs will be below around $2500 CDN (What I paid for it), so I would only have to pay the deductible.
But if my insurance provider decides to deem it totaled, I'd like to keep my car anyway it (was) in great shape, and drove great. So I'm wondering how much would be involved in fixing it. It really doesn't look that bad to me. I think I could do it. Of course, I'd need the parts, and that's where I'm hoping to get answers.
Based on what you helpful folk can see, how much in parts would I be after? Doesn't have to be new, I'd settle with new. Color aside as well, since I could get the parts repainted.
I'm sorry for the long post, but any help would greatly be appreciated.
PS: I saw This eBay posting for a 740 parts car, and was wondering if I could use the hood from an 1987 740 on my 1990 740, should I have to replace the hood.
Also, in case anyone is interested, this is was my 740 when I first got it:
