Hey everyone, as I plan out the mild suspension build for the new '92 745, I had my sights set on a pair of 25/25 IPD bars, but after realizing that 1. Wagons don't normally come with rear sway bars, and 2. The 25mm rear bar makes the wagons quite twitchy, I began to rethink some of what I thought was the right path for this car.
My end goal is to build a car that is fun enough to drive for me on a regular basis, but also something that my wife can jump in and not have to think about the rear end stepping out too often. It sounds like the end result of the 25/25 bars on a 7/9 wagon is just that, a car that does work nicely when driven hard, but can bite you if you let your guard down. This car will be the family car, so I would sacrifice razor sharp handling for a more neutral platform.
Currently, my plan is to keep it at factory height, and do a few simple modifications:
Maintenance components (as required)
Uprated bushings (as required)
Rear overload springs
Sway bars
Upper, lower aftermarket braces
960 braces
Uprated dampers (as required)
With those in mind, what do you folks think for the sway bars? The rest of the pieces are very straightforward, but the sway bars have a lot of variability. I have heard some good things about the 24/19 bars, a sort of factory mashup, does that sound like a decent fit? Perhaps even just the 19mm rear bar? Currently I believe the car has a 21mm bar in the front only.
My last 7/9 was a sedan, and the one before that was a wagon that I never truly drove that hard, so I have little frame of reference.
Thanks everyone
