Sorry if I came across so condescending, I just cant believe people think cutting springs is ok. I have worked in the automotive field for about 7 years, and cutting springs is commonly a bad idea. Your struts and springs are matched for a specific spring rate, bound, damper, all that crap, and cutting just screws it all up. I am sorry I dont have 100000098780254092178 posts, too... I havent had a Volvo for a few years, just my MINI Cooper S. I do have over 2000 posts on the MINI forum, though :p

Eh...it's cool. We all know it's not the proper way to lower a car, and that it won't perform anywhere near as well as a good set of coilovers...but it works well enough on these cars that a lot of us do it. I was hesitant about it at first...but with the new suspension components that went in at the same time, it rides and handles very well, especially considering it's just my daily-driver, not a track car.

yeah. if you cut a reasonable amount of coils from the springs, its actually a nice little free suspension modification, and it looks great too.
luke and I (gearwhine) cut 2 coils off the front of my 944, and 1.5 off the rear..it looks great, and handles nice. a little bumpy at times, but whatever.
I wouldn't chop the coils on my SE because I want it to be a show car at some point, so I'll probably invest in actual lowering springs with Bilstein HDs over the winter.

(kinda tough to see the ride height, but you get the idea)

I'm not a fan of cutting springs myself, more so because the people who do it usually have no clue as to effects it has overall, but if your aware of the limatations etc, it's not super bad on all cars.

On many cars with super soft springs, it's not smart, volvo used fairly good grade of steel though, and given you don't cut much, it's not so dangerous.

Just known that there is a formula for lowering vs spring rate, and cut springs usually lower more than the rate that should be increased for the given lowering amount, so cut springs will often end up bottoming out the struts a lot more easily than a proper lowering spring, dangerously so on many asian cars with super soft springs.

and yes, i know my tails are horrible. but oh well. they are gonna stay until i find some nice ones at the junkyard.
all ya need to do is wetsand em with 800 then 1200 grit paper, should make em look a LOT better, hell mebe just 800 grit alone will do it to your liking

they are just gonna stay like they are. only more work this is getting is a new battery and thats it. if it works, it works. although that may change as i drive it. i'm gonna try not to mod this car...its gonna be my daily beater for a while.
Looking much better.

You can haz door gas?

thanks man. i've got one on there now...i had to get a new bracket for it. i just gotta get a new spring for it to keep it shut.

It looks good, i love how it looks lowered. But; my real reason for posting. Where'd you get the Poop sticker? I WANT ONE FOR MY PILE OF POOP!

So you said you painted your bumpers wiht flat or gloss black? Did you use any protective spray? I do need to do this to my 740 aswell, I was told not using bumper paint and just regular spray results in the paint chipping and flakking over time.

Krylon Fusion works very well. Rub the bumper down lightly with some acetone and paint away.

It's available in satin or gloss too. The gloss looks pretty good on my black 940.

i have a feeling my bumpers will chip and peel. i still haven't driven it at all, so i have no idea. i just used ace hardware brand flat black paint.
