My son drove home from work and the next morning it would not start.
It tries to start while the starter in engaged then dies when off the starter.
What we tried and checked.
It runs a little when gas is squirted in the manifold.
Fuel pressure is good.
Spark at the plugs.
checked the crank sensor, it reads about 180 ohms.
Changed the power stage on the ignition.
Put a oscilloscope on the crank sensor and it has pulses.
No codes stored by the computer.
I hate to just throw parts at it.
Any ideas?

^^^^Yep. Take the oil cap off and make sure the cam is turning. Check compression.

Thanks for the ideas. The distributor and the cam are turning.
I put a timing light on it and it flashed but was hard to see any timing.
I'll try that again in less sunshine. I went ahead and tried a coil and dist. cap and rotor I had with no change.
When I did open the oil cap the oil was light brown and creamy like a mocha, probably a blown head gasket.
This car is a little to far gone to spend any more money on.
He is probably going to turn it in to a wrecking yard.

Timing belt with teeth sheered out due to age...... with that cam improperly timed, you have not a prayer of the engine running. As Dave said, do a static timing check with engine cranked around to 0* TDC at crank and see if the cam pulley is in the right position.

Fuel, air, and properly timed spark....... makes "fire in the hole"

Yes it is a "Classic".
I suppose we could try to sell it.
At over 400K miles, a bad engine and looking like crap i bet now one would want it.

People want the classic, it's limited. If it were any other 240, sure, do what you want. If it were a 740, crush it even if it runs good.
But not a classic, man....

Yea, we should try to sell it first. Maybe I'll try to sell a car on Ebay for the first time.
