So I cut a w58 bellhousing and a M46 bellhousing in half and welded them together.. Boom w58 to b230 conversion bellhousing

To get my block to transmission distance correct I stacked it and measured it

I am sure it wasn't done right or not idea or what ever but I don't care its the way i wanted to do it..

Awesome Work! what led you to do this? availability? Staying pure Volvo? Or might I ask... Awd?? lol

What would you charge to do such adaptors? Would it work for an M66 as well?

Always awesome to see you pull off these things and schooling the community :D

cheers man

Dude, I'm pretty sure a W58 is a Supra tranny.

I could be horribly wrong but I don't think I am.

The w58 is available and cheap. The M46 is weak and getting hard to find. Only rwd. Not sure what a M66 is honestly. I have no plans to produce these to sell but hopefully it will hold up to racing duty in our chump car.. We race at Daytona 14hour in May so wish us luck

#readingfail , I don't know WHY I read m58 LOL

Since reading m58, I figured you were using the volvo m58 not w58, thus asking in regards of the m66 R tranny LOL.

Well, I deserve some stupid Canadian jokes now.

Why no R154 (arent they stronger), or are you not planning to make enough power to break the w58?

The r154's shift like dump truck's and are much harder to find than the w58.. The w58 is a very smooth shifting transmission that will hold 400+ whp for a long long time. I might make 200whp with my chump car so it should hold up for quite a while I hope..

The best tranmission I've had was a marlin crawler rebuild r154 (so they arent THAT BAD), but that was more than the whole car. And overkill for 200hp.

Glad to see you getting **** done!

The R154 is strong.. I put 850whp threw 3 of them and they held up reasonably well considering the abuse I only broke 2 of them.. They never shifted very well. Considering most will not exceed the limits of the w58 thats the reason I went with that transmission.

Sam W58 vs T5?

I think a good WC T5 is a good strong transmission but not that cheap or easy to find compared to the W58.. Toyota has used some version of the w58 series transmission from the early 1980's celica/supra all the way till the 2005 Lexus IS300.. Its strong enough, cheap and very plentiful at most junkyards. I got both of my transmissions for free by people that just wanted them out of their shop space. Its not the most ideal transmission in the world I am sure but it was exactly what I was looking for in this project.

Sam W58 vs T5?
We had some growing pains with the T5 swap in our lemons car (mainly clutch related stuff), but once we got everything sorted out, the T5 has been great. We're also now using one that one of our guys rebuilt himself (his first time rebuilding a trans) and it's been perfect. Since I've had no trouble finding V6 T5s, and because the adaptation is so easy, that was the obvious choice for us.

Hope I get to drive this W58 one day. :x:
