The Buchka 242 Fake Racecar

Great work as always! I like your solution for the engine mounts. So basically the only difficulty with mounting that V8 in a 740 or 240 would be the starter motor sticking out the wrong way?

Thanks!

The starter is one of many difficulties. The drivers side engine mount interferes with the OEM water pump which we aren't using. All the water plumbing for the engine comes out of the back of the heads and block, the throttle body also points in the wrong direction. The mechanical integration is definitely non-trivial, same goes for electronics. Unless you delete VVT there aren't many ECU's out there for mortal money that can run the engine.

As it turns out a bloke in the old country is building an ambitious Disco2. He is using a Jag motor with Variable cam timing and a 3 phase hybrid electric drive. The reason he can do this is because HE DEVELOPS ECU's. As a side hobby it seems. Maybe you guys could discuss a few things? Dude looks like he knows what he's doing....

That said, the EMUIV can handle 4 cam sensing and variable timing on all inlets and exhausts. That and the ability to control direct injection makes it unique in the aftermarket I think. But be aware that I am still testing it at the moment. If it is only 2 variable cams, then EMUIII and indeed a few other aftermarket units should be able to drive that

Straight from the developers mouth. It will handle 4 cams.

Picked up a radiator and oil cooler combo on eBay for a song. It's a C&R nascar unit with PWR cores. These are very high quality and mucho dinero if bought new. The end tanks are enormous so they will get hacked off and re-made. Oil cooler is also pretty huge, might chop it down a bit depending on packaging constraints.

CAN-BUS keypad for the interior controls showed up (only took four months to get ).

Fitted the four tubes that span across the engine. These are the last tubes on the front of the chassis. They will be made removable after the entire chassis is fully welded to allow for engine removal. Jury is still out if the center point of tubes will fit under the hood, we'll have to see.

Something about that keypad annoys me. In fact, most controls on most devices nowadays. All it has is icons. No text anywhere. I hate that.

But, still. Great build guys. Imma gonna go yell at the clouds now.

CAN-BUS keypad looks great. Why'd it take so long to get?

The supplier is was extremely flaky. They were awful at responding to e-mails and phone calls in a timely manner, if at all sometimes.

I'm not thrilled on the icons either. The keypad is designed for industrial applications so the icon selection wasn't very well suited to a car. Still, the price and feature set are so good that we were willing to overlook the cons.

Well there is more than one language in the world. Not everyone knows English. There were very little English signs in Finland. I was like a lost puppy without the symbols.

Slick looking panel. Buttons work ok with a gloved finger?

So a coffin hood to be able to fit the cross braces?!

Which seller sold you the C&R unit?

Can't link since I'm on my phone but the username is "scruffy390". Looks like he has a couple more of them listed.

The panel is pretty sizeable. Each button is about 5/8" in diameter. Coffin hood is not on the books. Either a small hood lift or a mild bump in the hood will have to do if the tubes stick up too far.

I'm looking forward to the crawler suspension.
