Fuel filler neck #125446

Has anyone tried to find one lately? Everywhere I see "discontinued product." How would I go about purchasing one under these circumstances? Thanks.

When comparing 1984 parts book (pg. 281: 947279) with 1985 parts book (pg. 231: 1254446), they changed the part number, but diagram is essentially the same.

A few minor changes, but based upon part book views, both would appear to work.

That said, I do have a 1984 filler neck that I could take some pics of...maybe sell...maybe!

947279 is a Phillips head sheet metal screw.

I can verify Ian's assertion that they interchange. Absolutely no noticeable difference from the very first fill tubes with the vent door all the way to the end of the run. Don't get wrapped around the axle so to speak. A good engineer designs the new version taking into account it also needs to work in the previous application.

Correct....I've whizzed thru different OEM part catalogs over the years...and in Volvo's, several pages of same diagram are sometime given, with part numbers being on next downward page. First time I've seen this reversed in my lookups. Thanks!

That said, some online sites do not suggest this part number, 1254446, applies to 1984...but it's listed in Volvo's parts catalog for these US installed engines (B21FT, B23F). Here's an online listing:

FYI, 1254446 is listed in the 1975-1978 240/260 original Volvo parts catalog accessible online at the GCP website.

The page number printed on the page with the part numbers is 295, but if you want to go straight to that page enter 287 in online catalog viewer page number box and the corresponding diagram is on the previous page.

We've found problems with most if not all of the online interactive catalogs offered by various companies like Tasca.

In almost every case, we've found it's more reliable to reference original Volvo catalogs even though they can be difficult to use. And 1 example is the format change you mention.

Sometimes the original Volvo catalog part numbers are shown before the diagrams, sometimes after and sometimes on the same page. Sometimes like the version of the 1975-1978 Volvo parts catalog at GCP, you have to deal with catalogs that aren't in English and that's when Google Translate comes in handy...... most of the time.

Interesting, I've spent some time scanning Volvo's FE7 (Class 7 semi-truck) microfiche of late 1980s vintage, and it follows "logically," diagram first, then parts' listings. I don't recall seeing them flipping this sequencing. Volvo's car dealerships who are online use a diagram first, then parts listing.

I suspect more than one counter-person screwed the parts ordering pooch with an inconsistent format. Hmmm...I wonder if a Volvo exec could explain the rationale, but most of them are most likely long gone.

Question...the fuel tank part number most likely change after 1975, due to adding an in-tank fuel pump, but would a 1984 fuel tank fit on a 1975? US versions, of course.

Someone had Volvo's instructions on how to do this...anyone still have this supplement?

Fuel tanks replaced on 1974-1977 Volvos had a pressure relief value set at 1.5 psi.

Reid vapor pressure (RVP) measured at 37.8 ?C (100 ?F), and varies from state to state, and season to season from 7psi to 9psi...one psi higher with E10.

I have no idea when EPA started regulating gasoline vapor pressure, but it was doing it by 1990's Clean Air Act

Sometime after 1980, Volvo may have gone to a more pressurized tank
