Default t3 turbo custom oil lines - UK

Hi all,

Thanks for all the help so far with my B21 + T build. I have a new question regarding oil feed/drain lines.

I'm using a Garrett T3 from a 740 turbo, and need to make some oil feed/drain lines.

I'm going to take the feed from the tapping on the front of the block by the waterpump, and weld a fitting in the sump for the drain.

I'm having trouble finding information on quality components available in the uk for these hoses/fittings, and whether I can custom make the hose lengths myself, or whether I need to have a company make these up for my when I provide the lengths i need.

Has anyone in the UK or Europe make up quality oil feed/return lines and could talk me through the process (fitting sizes/types - hose sizes/lengths/manufacturers).

The dreaded Turbo oil drain !

I spent loads of time and money pi$$ing around with that.

I ended up spending a chunck on this

Which then enabled me to try some AN10 custom oil line kit similar this but not different angle fittings

First one ended up leaking after a few runs
Second one leaked again
Third one leaked
Forth one melted as wasnt braided

In the end i went to local hydraulic shop i got whole line pre crimped and much better quality than the AN type lines for cheaper as well.

in fairness the lines probably leaked because you cheaped out and bought eBay junk, not because they were 'AN type'. Braiding is not really a thermal layer either.

Have used a mix of Aeroquip socketless hose and fittings, and Aeroquip StartLite, and never had a leak. Have used DEI fire sleeve to help with thermal issues on the drain line and elsewhere. Works well as long as the sleeve is not in direct contact with the hot stuff.

Yes i did cheap out on kit number one by the third attempted i spent £45 on one Goodridge AN10 90 degree which guess what it leaked.

I think to be fair it was the angle that the braided line was at that put too much pressure on the fitting.

The non braid fitting was so much more relaxed and didnt leak but like i said it melted.

All i know that its a killer and stressed me out much.

About to sort this myself- can you elaborate on the above a bit?

So you’ve got the block adapter from yoshiFab and then... you went to a hydraulic place with a fitting that fitted that and a fitting for the turbo outlet?

These are the parts you need. Ive been working on same deal. I read alot of people having problems. So here are some resources that I have and hope it works.

Teflon braided hose. Use teflon because it will stand up much better to the heat of the exhaust: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/S-S-PTFE...-/222266608044

Parker 836 series hose is the best way better than that Teflon hose.
The actual hose is better but the fittings are a bit limiting. If you are worried about heat then just use this. Its easy to use and fits nice and tight.

The hose shop will make a hose with the desired length and crimp on 10 an fittings, like this.

I prefer the STS turbo drain adapter. It's super easy to install, and it's also removable if you want to transfer it to another engine.

That drain look great with the orings. Eliminates leakage which is common on loctite fittings. Im going to get teflon hose then put a sleeve over it. Ive learned just because its stainless hose doesnt mean it will hold up to heat.

I don't think the original poster has the drain hole already on the block for the Yoshifab or STS adapter. He said he was going to weld on a fitting to the sump.

For my +T I used a fitting to the sump which bolted through a hole that I drilled in the sump - no welding required. Has worked perfectly for the few years it has been on.
Only thing to remember is to position it as high as possible on the sump. I just drilled where it was easiest. Some time later when I was removing the turbo I found the hard way that the fitting was under the oil level. Means that you can only remove the turbo by removing the top fitting or changing the oil. I also think it doesn't help the oil drain from the turbo at full whack.

Yeah I don't have the hole in the block in my B21, so will be using a sump fitting.

I'm still non the wiser to which brand of fittings to buy, and where I can buy them in the UK.

Any pointers? All I can easily find is the eBay crap mentioned!

There are plenty of reputable suppliers in the UK. Just off the top of my head:
Rally Design
Demon Tweaks
Trident Racing Supplies
Competition Supplies
The hose supplier Earls also seem to have their own online shop.

Plus on nearly every industrial estate there will be a hydraulic hose shop who should be able to make up what you need.

That said, I've never had any problems with 'ebay junk' as long as I've specified the correct parts for the job.

+1 for hydraulic hose. if it's good for 6000psi it's good enough for us. JIC also is the same 37° flare as AN fittings, poor man's AN if you prefer lol

I’ve had good luck with cheap eBay braided hose but with good quality hose ends like Earl’s or Fragola. The worst part of the cheap hose is that the braided outer part wants to slide down the Teflon inner part when you try to slide the fitting down, but with a good quality hose end it should be easy enough. I recently tried to just use eBay fittings and hose which did not work well at all.
