Default 240 Brake Light Engagement

93 245

Edit: upon further investigation, it looks like the switch may be held on with 2 of those low profile nuts; thus allowing for adjustment already. Maybe?

I'm wondering if anyone here has successfully adjusted when their brake lights come on. On my 245, I've noticed that mine come on after the brakes have already started engaging. This is dangerous. I'd like them to come on the second I touch the brake pedal. It seems that the plunger in the switch comes out almost a 1/4" before they engage.

Ways to fix? I see the threaded portion of the switch is held to the bracket/assembly via a low profile nut on the back. I'm wondering if it's acceptable/safe to remove that nut, pull the switch out, and then install washers inbetween the switch and the bracket/assembly and reassemble. This way that plunger would already be sticking further out in the neutral position. I'm not sure if the way I worded that was understandable but I hope it was. Thanks

Adjust the nuts in or out so that the brake lights come on just after the pedal leaves the stop position.

Yeah when I first looked at it in the car I didn’t see that there were 2 nuts allowing adjustment, I’d just seen the 1. Looks like adjusting those will fix my issue.
