242 Build

Also forgot I switched the turbo to a HE351CW, had to machine the 90deg compressor outlet off. Then machine and weld a new straight outlet. The original 90deg outlet interferred with the supercharger plumbing.

Looks great! I'm sure you've said this before but where did the intake manifold come from?

Thanks Doug! Found it on eBay when I was randomly browsing, from some guy in Belgium. They had both 8v and 16v versions. The runners are a longer on the 8v version and the manifold is pretty tall. Chopped part of the manifold off and machined a new flange for the Bosch throttle. This also got the throttle parallel again to the intercooler outlet for the reverse flow setup.

I looked on eBay and couldn't find any more then listed, original auction is also gone. Here's an email screenshot of the auction though:

Here's what it looked like uncut:

I just read this whole thread Dave. Awesome work on the car, and it's inspired me to get back in gear on my own 242 project!

Thanks dude!

I thought that turbo looked familiar. How are you liking it compared to the HX35 (I think thats what you had)?

Was running an hy35 with an 8cm exhaust housing. http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=140888

I've run the he351cw without the supercharger and it had little more lag. I'd say roughly 300-400rpm difference. With the s/c on don't notice the difference in spool since the s/c just stays on a bit more before bypassing. Fees like it pulls a bit harder up top. Running around 18psi right now and haven't pushed the timing since switching to 91 octane.

Hey man! Its Justin from Volvo Specialists in Denver! I'm super glad I finally found your thread! Incredible man! Let me know if you ever need anything else

That's what I was thinking it was too. Kind of toying with the idea of their i5 intake for the wagon.

Quality was good on the casting & machine work. Wouldn't say oem quality but pretty good.

Very amazing build. Really inspires me to build my B230ft in my 745. I also have a 77 242DL that might be a good candidate for a build like this. Im begging for all of us here to get a video with some amazing twin charging sounds !!!

Would love someone to figure out how to rehost all these damned photobucket pics without the blurriness. DavoS40, Would love if you could repost those pics from a different host. Love the build, would love to see the pics too!
