Visited the Volvo Engine museum last month (56k no no no!!!)

Never realized the B36 had crossflow heads. I had always assumed all the pushrod stuff was non-crossflow. Very cool.
 
You'd probably be able to bolt a B36 head on a B20/B18, not that being crossflow would really help the flow much (considering the siamesed middle ports).
 
Iknow Volvo will give 200 bux for a complete old engine to rebuild for resale.
 
...what is the engine's mass? i think a b36 would be a good boat engine with modified compression. but for a road vehicle? i bet it weighs half of a 300 series hatchback.
