![]() Just a side note for those doing this. Wait until you have the crank and rods in before putting the final torque to these things with red loctite. It is a close fit in there if you have not shaved your crank down to nothing.
Thanks JV for making and loaning this kit out. |

![]() Hello Marc and All:
I was just reading John V's write up on squirters. A useful writeup John, thanks. I've just installed a built up '93 B230FT engine in my car and it runs beautifully! As I was reading the thread, Marc, I came upon your mention of the different volumes of B230 oil pumps. When I was building my B230FT I didn't rebuild the oil pump as I had one I had rebuilt for a Turbo-ised B23E I built a few years ago. "It was fresh so why not use it", I thought. The statement you made about the different sized gears made me go and measure the difference in the pump gears. The B230FT gears are 5 mm. larger. Now, I'm uncertain if the pump in my new engine has the large volume or regular volume pump, I'll have to find out myself, obviously. In light of the fact the oil pressure came up fast when I primed the engine at startup and it seems to hold oil pressure well, I don't feel too uncomfortable. The question might be, what risk will I run by continuing to use the possibly low volume pump? Does anyone have any suggestions? Bill Bard '92 940FT Ross pistons, Mechart Rods. |

![]() Who is next for this, the Brits? If so, I'm in Maryland with only the North Atlantic between me and them. I can send it over to them after I drill and tap this block I have sitting around.

![]() Sorry, been getting done with a hugely overdue car project then getting some overdue suspension stuff done and delivered.
Gotta pay the rent, ya know. And as you know, the phone works best. Ask anybody. I thought the Anglais were ready so maybe it can come BUT NOT SIT THERE FOR 4 MONTHS. Hey BB-Q! What's up, you Pommes ready for this kit? |

![]() No John. I've asked around and everyone but me already has a squirter block.
Consequently it may be a bit of a waste of effort to send it over just for me. I've recently managed to tame a machine shop, so I'm going to ask them how much they want to do the work or if they'll let me use the mill at lunchtime or whatever. I don't think it'll be worth the time and effort to get this kit over just for one guy. Put me to the back of the queue for now- I'll let you know if I need it, mate. |

![]() I've got the tooling to do this, but I'm not ready yet. Any chance I could get a part number so I can order them myself when the time comes? I've seen this question asked already and go unanswered.

Those squirter bolts are hollow, so about 12 lbs-ft sounds good. And use red loctite those threads. RT suggested 242. I used 271: on clean, un-oiled threads. Loctite 271 has a viscosity equivalence during assembly/torqueing of Castrol SAE40 motor oil; so no prob of thread galling/seizure. Red loctite the squirter bolts to 12 lbs-ft, and they will stay in place and tight. For that low of a torque spec, you may need to use an inch-pound torque wrench, and go for 144 [145-150 will be good]. ![]()
