• Hello Guest, welcome to the initial stages of our new platform!

We need more BEIGE, 83 242

Just to double check, you realize you have the mount arm the wrong way round in your picture, correct? The end that you have resting against the engine is supposed to be touching the blue towel (or crossmember, but since the towel is in the photo) and the side that's touching the towel should be against the engine block. There might still be some missing bosses/holes but that should give you a better idea of where they are.

If you knew that then carry on. :)

Yeah I just set it down in frustration for a picture

A lot of very familiar looking parts there! We're on pretty much the same pace.
Is there 1 or 2 of the mounting bosses for the mount there?

You might be a few steps ahead with the motor in the car and everything. Find a flywheel yet? I'm starting to think a trip to the ER wasn't where a bad trade for one of those suckers

Looking under a 850 and V70 in a junkyard a while back you can see 2 more mounting bosses in the 850(top photo) and 1 on the v70. Both are missing from my block

After work got to throw the 242 on the lift, guess the one good thing about quarantine is that it means less jobs and more time

Motor came out quite easily, no hacking of the harness necessary, just unclip 2 plugs and the harness can be draped on the engine.

Lining it up to make some mounts tomorrow, drivers side 960 mount should work but for the passenger I'll have to make an upper mount.

From the looks of it the center line on the top of the engine is this ridge in the valve cover, seem right?

Should have weighed the 242 beforehand and then after to see how much the 5th cylinder ads, can't be too much since the whole new drivetrain and a hoist loads right into a 245 on lowering springs and still rubs less then an unloaded bimmer
<a href="https://ibb.co/mGM978R"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/4758xdF/20200331-203028.jpg" alt="20200331-203028" border="0"></a>

Motor and transmission are now mounted, my engine stands look like pure dog**** but are sturdy. Pan sits very close to the steering rack so both might get a visit from a sanding wheel. Wiring as a peice of cake since the whole b23 harness came right out leaving me switched 12v and 12v cracking signals in the right places.

Got the oil system sealed (besides the pcv port on the 960 pan, what do y'all do with it) so I fired it up while jumping the pump. Tomorrow I'll have to figure out the fuel pump relay and then it will be all the ignition switch.

Still gotta figure out the cooling system, put together the clutch setup, driveshaft and charged air pipes, along with buying an intercooler, but it runs

That port on the pan is a great spot for an oil separator/catch can return

Smart thinking, maybe too smart for me but Ill try.

Ran the motor a little more today for ****s and giggles, installed the pilot bearing(6003LLBC3), clutch and pressure plate, banged my head against a wall trying to make the mustang throw out bearing fit the m46 fork.

A few pictures of my ugly mounts so I can flux my welding skills, forgot to take pictures tonight since the fork was too upsetting
<a href="https://ibb.co/Qj7X9NB"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/M5y9nVT/20200401-230813.jpg" alt="20200401-230813" border="0"></a>

Got the clutch setup in and working, had a real fun time trying to find out why the motor was nearly locked up whenever I'd torque down the bellhousing. Turns out my ebay input shaft was a hair too long and pushed into the back of the crank, ground it down a tad and it turns free. After some creative reworking to the clutch fork I was able to use all stock parts. M46 Fork&pivot ball, V6 mustang TOB, 242 cable and bracket. Seems like you have the opposite problem as a redblock with a t5 on these, the pressure plate is too far back to run the stock parts without some cutting.

Bracket needs welded on better then my brazing job, but I don;t have 100% argon so that's for later. Had to made a little space in the floor for the fork, but I'm not too mad about it
<a href="https://ibb.co/9tTjm7v"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/k18FVty/IMG-1836.jpg" alt="IMG-1836" border="0"></a>

Also made a real sexy looking downpipe out of 4 different bits I had.
<a href="https://ibb.co/S6S9ng1"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/sg7Mw4D/IMG-1831.jpg" alt="IMG-1831" border="0"></a>

Reworked the transmission mount as well so it fits better. No pictures but its damn pretty don't worry

Need to put the yokes on the driveshaft and get the charged air/cooling systems in, then some test drives so I can find the stuff I ****ed up

I've ****ed my sleep schedule with this car, 4am and I'm just showering now

Keeping power steering so first up was sorting out hoses, everything I read said a custom hose was needed but after pulling the fittings out of the 850 pump and the B23 pump I saw they where about the same, b23 fitting went right into the whiteblock pump and the hose fits well, the sheath is even the perfect size
<a href="https://ibb.co/zS819th"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/Q68ZSxF/20200407-025710.jpg" alt="20200407-025710" border="0"></a>

Next the reservoir, didn't want to cut and fail to weld the manifold so I grabbed another ACE hardware sitting (that makes 5 in this swap), cut the old elbow off, tapped and applied some plastic apoxy as threadlock/sealant.

<a href="https://ibb.co/Qc6vgmC"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/cvNhBTC/20200406-125019.jpg" alt="20200406-125019" border="0"></a>

Fuel feed line done, its the 850 hardline fitting to a bit of copper tubing up to the rail
<a href="https://ibb.co/hYTtjLB"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/xFrR0X1/20200406-141521.jpg" alt="20200406-141521" border="0"></a>

Then came the throttle linkage, redblock spool and bracket hacked apart, some ****ty welds and the deeworks throttle body adapter later I now have a gas petal again

<a href="https://ibb.co/1bpZ5tt"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/b7y1ZMM/20200407-021318.jpg" alt="20200407-021318" border="0"></a>

Last for today was a little more wiring, fuel pump relay in place (still gotta find the m4.4 fuel pump trigger signal), alternator idiot light wired up and maf wires extended for RWD use. Mocked all the intake pipes up and ran the car for a little, just sitting there at idle makes me want to drive this thing

Took the car on its first test-drive. Had to steal the intercooler out of a freinds car the driveshaft out of the wagon but she runs and drives now

Drove the car home tonight, open downpipe is a little loud, needs a shifter and serpentine belt

Slapped a belt on and drove the car to lunch today, power steering works great and it changes as it should, back to looking sexy with the front end on too
<a href="https://ibb.co/26K6Wn2"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/N3Y3tVh/20200408-193433.jpg" alt="20200408-193433" border="0"></a>

Wired up the fan relay after work, didn't get it to temp yet since I have no temp gauge, been shutting it off at lights. IACV hoses are all over the place since I don't know it's final placement yet, might have to get some preshapped hearer core hose to run it out of the way without really long bends

Lookin' good! Video of that sweet white block song?

I'll have to get some clips, might be time for a muffler. It's a little loud with the open downpipe. I threw a magnaflow on for a second and it sounded pretty damn good revving it

Turns out the car had been running on 4 cylinders, after some multi metering I opened up the ECU to find I had put a resistor in the wrong place:roll: Runs MUCH better now, made it to and from Vacaville today without issue

<a href="https://ibb.co/mvcnbYH"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/jVrCbxL/20200410-174147.jpg" alt="20200410-174147" border="0"></a>

Also fixed an oil leak, no more oil slicks down the undercarriage or oil in the driveway
<a href="https://ibb.co/crLFRrM"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/z4JRC4j/20200409-182426.jpg" alt="20200409-182426" border="0"></a>

After looking at the underside of hood some spots look like Beigeish, some graffiti remover takes off the black rattle can paint, looks almost beige, but I might still buy some paint

Unrelated but funny I locked my only key in the car last night
<a href="https://ibb.co/52hTK9y"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/M9knBh4/20200410-223643.jpg" alt="20200410-223643" border="0"></a>

I couldn't fit my hands threw the hold in the transmission tunnel and didn't have any metal hangers, Siena's arms where just small enough to fit. I thought it was funny getting the keys out, she did not

You've been busy! Must be nice to see it running. I like the solution for the power steering return line. Interesting to hear how it holds up after a few months.

I pretty much lost a week of my life to this swap, but it was well worth it
I'm keeping my eye on it, no leaks yet. Seemed like a better option then cutting the intake to me.

You ever figure out the M4.4 fuel pump relay trigger? I've got it jumped to the ECU switched 12v signal but that's probably not the best (or safest)

Locked keys in 242?

Use a large Phillips screwdriver and take out the rear window...

I tried but the screws seemed ceased. Fishing for the keys is cheaper then buying a new latch

Removing the paint is slow. I forgot to get gloves and thus stuff isn't that nice on your skin.

Seems like there is several versions of 172 rose beige, anyone know how to get the right paint for a 83? Looks like the cowl has been repaired, or maybe the whole car?
