Oxygen Sensors - Universal O? Sensor

Just creating a master list of compatible inexpensive O? sensors that will work in our cars, please post any info/experience you may have and I'll update the list. Also include any good sources that you know of.

Note: any non "direct fit" entry followed by an ** indicates this has been done and known to work normally, where as "direct fit" is assumed to work.

Not sure what this would specifically be applicable to, but should work in place of any car that specifies the 15735, though you may have to hook up the 4th wire (ground).

Do you know if there is any difference between these sensors aside from the connectors? I see the EGR car has a different model listed than the same year non-EGR car, for instance. (Actually I have the exhaust from a '94 940T with EGR and am wondering what's up with the O2 sensor)

Do all 02 sensors have the same thread, or is that the difference between direct fit and universal. Nice work. I was wondering about this when I was ordering from FCP

O2 sensors

When I was at Autozone they said the universal listing for a 1993 245 from Bosch is 15737. I never tried it though because it was expensive. I've used the 15727 four wire on two LH2.4 240 series. My old 1989 and now my 1993 wagon. It works very well. The instruction sheet reads that you can leave the extra ground wire off but I run it to the valve cover.

The car runs great with the 15727 sensor. It was $60 at the Autozone in Burlington, NJ.
Prior to this I was running an NTK three wire universal on my wagon and after about six months it started setting the bad O2 sensor signal. Maybe I got a bad one but after feeling how much better my car runs with the 15727 I don't think the NTK universal is compatible with LH2.4.

Thanks for the list!

ok, did some quick checking, looks like the universal for the 84-91 turbo 4 is the same for the 87-90 b280f, acording to fcp grotten, so.......

I have a part number for the universal wideband (5 wire) sensor on my HD somewhere. I'll post it up tomorrow.

It's about $35 IIRC

I think it fits on the v70 and s60.

Ok I physically looked at the following sensors today:

→13913 Bosch 3 wire Universal (38$ at Autozone)**
→13942 Bosch 3 wire (92 V8 Mustang, 8.5" long wire, 39$ @ Autozone)
→13953 Bosch 3 wire (92 V8 Mustang, 16.5" long wire, 40$ @ Autozone)

→15727 Bosch 4 wire Universal (60$ @ Autozone)

They all appear to be the same sensor, however each sensor was stamped with a different number for the last three digits, all start with 0 258 003 and end with the last three numbers of the short part number.

I'm confident the 3 wire types are in fact all the same sensor with different wire lengths. The 15727 4 wire had the longest wire by a notable amount, while the 13913 had the shortest wire, which was just a little shorter than the 13942.

I went home with the cheapest which was the 13913 for 38$.

I too stocked up on the 13913s a few years ago, originally for my Audi. I bought 3 of them for $30 a piece at an Audi parts site. They were advertized as a cheap cut and splice option for a sensor.

Thanks for the list. I didn't know that turbos and NA had different sensors. Wonder if that is going to affect my +T when I have to get it smogged in a month. If I buy a new one should I base it on the ECU and what year/model car it is from?

Kinda a weird combination on my car. 1993 940 Turbo ECU w/ Cali 1995 EGR valve.

I am only aware of three different types of narrow-band oxygen sensors:

1. Single wire, non-heated
2. Three wire, heated (preheating allows for better O2 control during startup)
3. Four wire heated with reference ground

These sensors all produce 0-1v signals proportional to the AFR in the exhaust. However, the narrow band sensors have a very narrow range of accuracy (hence the name.)

There are other types of O2 sensors out there, but none were ever OEM on a Redblock AFAIK.

So, actually the single wire will do the same job as the others, but on newer ECU's a DTC may be set if the other wires are not used (however, there are very simple cicruits available that trick the ECU into "seeing" the other wires usually connected ;-) )

Unknown application/ Universal (good for all cars needing 5 wire wideband sensors)
→15738 Bosch 5 wire Universal (~$60 on Ebay, must be crimped onto factory connector pigtail)
