Hi all!

I would like to present my '87 Volvo 360.

I bought it in januari 2011 and came all stock with a B200 engine and relative low km''s on the tacho.

Three years, and a lot of work later, it looks like this.......

What happened between those 2 pictures......

I got a B21ET ....

Took it apart and rebuild it to make it fit for the 360....(sorry for the color,my engines are always in blue..)

Normally a B21ET runs on K-jet........ mine runs on the slightly modified LE-jet of the B200.

Got a 7 series intercooler.Looks great ... but the hood doesn't close anymore.....

....so I got this one(Renault 2.8L DTI diesel)...

9 series watercooled T3.....

It has the white V70T5R injectors and a FS265T camshaft from Folkraceshop.se

As the LE-jet uses An airflow meter I had to look foor a bigger one. That came from a BMW535i.Only problem is...the Beemer runs on Motronic. So I took both the Volvo and the BMW part to a friend of mine and he made the BMW parts suitable for LE-jet.

Left Volvo,right BMW

Now that the setup was more or less the way it should be I got all new silicone hoses and aloy pipes.

To make sure the car's brakes could handle the extra power and speed, I got different brakes on the front.Parts came from a Nissan Sunny GTI-R.To make that fit I designed an adapter and had that made out of alluminium that is used for aircrafts.

This is the original set up

From that same Nissan came the discs and calipers from the rear.I have planned a conversion from drums to discs on rear of my car but that is still under construction......

This is the second crankshaftpully that dies on me............

What caused this.......beats me.The bolts where still fitted the way they should.Too old......maybe....whatever the cause....new ones aren't availlable, old ones are hard to find and not reliable. Now what........?
Brick autosport(you know......Mr Borrie) has new pulleys, and also for the B21.

A really nice part with only 1 small problem, it is an"under"pulley is, so the Original drivebelts are to big. 2 steps shorter fit nicely.

I hope this one lasts way longer than the previous........

Due to some oilpressure problems I decided to overhaul the engine and as was at ...why not put some oilsquirters in..Thanks John V. for the work you did to figure how it can/should be done.I took the engine out last November. That gives a bit of time during the winter to rebuild the thing. The crankshaft was a bit of an issue. It had clear marks and should be fixed.Lucky me to find a B21 engine that had very low milage. The crankshaft was as good as new.So where the bearings as the previous owner had started to gain parts to rebuild it....why..I don't know he just did and never got to build it. I found a set of 4 squirters at the local BMW dealership for free.....Had to take them out of an engine that was waiting to be recycled but the squirters where ok..
As the engine was completely taken apart I took it to a friend of mine.He specialised himself in rebuilding classic car engines .Mostly Mercedes but any other make and type is no problem. I told him about the squirters and where i wanted them .Figured as he 's got al the machines and tools for it why do it yourself. So first........an engine wash....

Then the holes for the squirters....

And finally the squirters are in....

To make sure that where wheren't any particles of the drilling and tapping left It got a double wash when it was finished....

I took it home and as it was completely clean now was the moment do repaint it.Soory for the weakly harted or purists among us...all my engines are blue and will be blue ......

3 layers of paint and 3 layers of clear coat.......

So the list of new parts was something like
-Crankshaft
-Main bearings
-Pushrod bearings
-Cylinderhead overhaul kit
-Bigger oilpump
-Oilsquirters
-Pistonrings
-Completely Rebuild Cosworth T3
-Timing belt
-Drive belts

Must have fogotten something for sure.....

Putting in the squirters meant looking for an oilpump with the bigger gears.Problem....If you have a 2,7 or 9 series...no problem.A 3 series has a different sump...and the bigger pump fitsiin but hits the bottom of the sump...So what now. I noticed that new pumps have a different type of pick up. Ifound out that the Original oilpump of the 360 has a little over 5 mm space between the pick up and the bottom of the sump. Soooo if I change the pickup and use a double oilsumpgasket......hmmm...lets try that

Original oil pick up...

The way it is now....

That should do it....I tried it on the B21 that came with the new crankshaft.... fits perfectly .

So the rebuild continued......

new pistonrings....

I admit that I am a sucker for details........

Did some pollishing......

And on top top of that...I had the valvecover and oilfillercap Water transfer printed in carbon look......

Like it or hate it..I think it looks great!

Found a "slightly" bigger Forge intercooler......

But putting it in....is a bit of a bitch...... Even had to take out some pieces of the radiator grill......

Only thing that is n't coming back on the car....the headlight wipers ....o well.....

And then the waiting started.........waiting for my Cosworth T3 to come home.

I had a better compressorwheel and housing and that was to put on my Cossy...But the axle broke. And I needed a new centre as the flange on the turbine side was broken...So new parts where orderred. Yesterday it came home.New turbine wheel, rebuild T3 centre with upgraded bearings. These cover 360 degrees instead of the stock 270 degrees. Also the better compressor was fitted. It was the missing link to finish the rebuild....

After fitting the turbo the thing was ready. After cranking it without ignition al seemed ok. At the first crank with ignition she woke up...and that is a great feeling..trust me.She needed a few seconds to wake up completely....but she did!A small oil leak at one of the leads to the oilcooler was all the trouble I found and it was easily fixed.

Can't wait till Friday, she'll get a fresh m.o.t. and then she'll be ready to hit the road again!

The car hasn't been used since april last year. One reason for that is that I want an other management for it. The Original LE-jet is already beyond its limits. I'll probably go for a LH2.4 management with a custom chip. That should do it. Main reason that I didnt do that yet are my wife's health problems and an engine swap for my daily diesel rocket. That one runs great now.For al you weak harted readers.............. its a VW Golf 2. I swapped a Golf3 TDI in it.Ideal for daily use.Fun to drive as it has 140 BHP at 340NM. Fuel consumtion ....1 liter of diesel every 18 km's!
I had planned to have the 360 ready in april but that's not going to happen. She will be running this year!
