Regarding a 740 series;
I understand the Volvo wheel stud knurl is an odd-ball and I might be SOL but..

Has anyone identified a longer wheel stud that will work on the 740 hub from another manufacture that might be found at a local parts store?

Im going to run a 20mm spacer. The local availability is a sticking point because I was hoping to hit the road tomorrow. I've did some digging through the forums and found a few threads but i didnt see anything conclusive, though I might be using the wrong keywords.

I had to do the wheel stud project for an old rambler I put discs on and I remember finding a mfg'r chart comparing sizes, but for the life of me I cant dig that up again

I wouldn't care about changing lug nuts & running some goofy standard american size; primary concern is getting back on the road ASAP.

The 7/9 series utilizes 12x1.25mm thread pitch for the studs, which is a common stud. You can find these studs on many Subarus and other imports. If you can measure your current stud length, add 20mm to that and you will have a stud suitable to run. Autozone/O'Reilly's/Napa/CARQUEST should all be able to hook you up, probably gonna be $2/stud.

240's have unusual shanks, larger than the threaded portion (heh, I found this out during my brake swap when I broke a 960 rotor), that might be what you are thinking about? The 700 series doesn't have this feature.

Forgive the live posting but it's a lot more fun than working

Volvo:
13.50mm knurl
.531" knurl diameter
47mm length

Ford:
15.78mm knurl
.621" knurl diameter
73mm length

Ford:
??? clip-head ???
.555" knurl diameter
2.31" length (~58.6")

Vibe/Matrix
14.20mm knurl
.559" knurl diameter
55mm length (maybe too short??)

Chevy:
????
.56" knurl diameter
2.37" length

Ok forget what I said, work is more interesting than all these knurls blending together

Youll be happy to know that any and all turbobricks research on the topic always comes back to this link. Unfortunately, in the rush i was in, I had sparco spacers over-nighted and now im scrambling on the stud situation.

In the long term, i am going to get a set of kaplhenke's for the rear...Im thinking the vibe/matrix option is do-able in the meantime.

Thoughts??

edit;
55mm under head length
-20mm spacer
-XXmm bolt circle depth??
OH GOD

I was never good at math and it shows

Following up on this;

-vibe/matrix studs are far too short for 20mm spacers
-buy kaplhenke's studs (& spacers) because a) they work b) hes a great dude who came through in a pinch

I got the 240 set. Pulled the hubs and axles and used my HF 20 ton press. Simple and worked perfectly. You can spend a ton of time to get the same solution, or just buy Ben's stuff and be done next week.

Truth
For all the future-youse; kaplhenke is the way to go.
