Hello,
i am new to this forum and to Volvo's in general. I come from a Volvo family (five Volvo's so far, soon to be six) and must say in the beginning i disliked them. Now i love them. My dad gave me his 1990 740GL (manual tranny) with (as of now) 246,789 miles. It is alot and the car was loved and cared for and will continue to be. I am going to try to pick up as much information around here as i can.

Take care, Elad

Welcome!

Nice to have you Elad. Hope you enjoy many more happy miles with a well cared for manual trans Volvo. That's not a very common car for the US. Most all 740s by 1990 were automatic.
Happy rolling!

246,000 is a lot of miles? No way man... 400,000 is a lot of miles. Hell, my 240 has over 310,000 right now. Consider yourself lucky to have so few miles on your car. lol.

my families current vovlos probably have the least mileage when their age is taken into account...

80 242 - 93K KMS NOT MILES

91 244 - 73K KMS

93 944 - 98K KMS

91 244 - 85K KMS

thats 349K kms COMBINED or like 218K MILES

high miles

My highest mileage Volvo is my 82 turbo @295k miles. All of the Volvos I've owned have/had more than 100k miles with the exception of my 81 turbo that is a baby at 71k miles.

Best regards,

My 74 144 is assumed to have around 235k as the odometer died at 112k and the car was driven for at least 7 years after it died (all records from 86 to 93 show the same mileage and no records before 86).

My 240 B200 has 163K on it running quite well, and my 945 turbo B230FT has 233K on her and running very well :)

How many replacement boxes have been on your car?

Griz

Boxes? Do you mean exhaust? Or do you mean gearboxes? I'm going to assume you mean gearboxes. My 82 is still on the original. The 84 turbo has a used 178k mile replacement that was put in when the car had 150k. My 81 turbo still has the original box and clutch. The old cars don't count.

Best regards,

My family has these Vovlos

1993 740 wagon (at)

1994 940 wagon (at)

1990 740GL (stick)

1990 740 Turbo (stick)

and we have had...
1988 240 (stick) got totaled by a drunk driver when it was parked

1989 (?) (at) 240 wagon

I should probably check every cars mileage sometime.
I really wanted that 240 too.

Oh yeah, BTW, the 74 144 has a Celica 5-speed as the stock M40 was toasted and someone offered to buy the M41 I had installed, so I figured I've got the cash, so why not...
