show your wheels!

i already have a brush that fits the diamonds of the Multi-X rims, so i ain't worried, even got a hose attachment on it, so i can scrub with water and soap.

If you have that much time on your hands, why not polish the whole wheel, inside the X holes & all?

So how many holes in one multi x wheel? Looks like a time consuming process to me............whatever you like to spend your time doing I guess.

Wrong! Reads off the diff, makes no difference to have non OEM wheels and plus you have the same goddamned wheels.

It's not necessarily the OEM wheels, but a different size tire than what came originally on the car-for example, my girlfriend's 91 240 has 14" steelies, but since the tires on the back are 185-65, her speedometer reads fast, as OEM tire size was 185-70. The tire diameter is what makes a difference with the speedometer. You might have an 18" wheel with a little rubber band tire, and as long as it had the same diameter as the stock wheels, your speedo would be spot-on.

Smokeyf##'s tire diameter is wrong. The wider tires (205 portion) makes the overall diameter of the tire slightly higher.

@ Smokey:

Nope. GPS and radar check machines says it's spot on. Besides 20+ years old speedometers even with OEM wheel size, are never as accurate as they were when new.

And,... don't you have Virgos on your 240 too?

How can GPS and radar detect machines say it's precisely spot on when your using a larger tire diameter as proven above?

Also, I'm curious how bigger rims can increase tire diameter?

Volvo speedometer's calibration has always been 3%-4% conservative so I bet your car with 185-70-14's is a little bit off.

Steelies look good, too bad the nicest looking of them, the stock late 240 steelies, are only 14". Here are my wheels:

Think it looks pretty neat on a piss yellow 240.

Ken- do you know what method was used to polish the lips on those wheels? I just got my set back from blasting and could probably polish them fairly easily now.

not for 240, if they're more then 14" on a 240, you've got some from another Volvo :p
my mom has 15" steelies for her winter shoes on her 240. (which is the car in my signature, donj't have any racing pics of my own as of yet :p )
Those are from a 940.

agree late base 740 and 940 came with 15 steelies

Because you are not taking a lot of other things into consideration. 1" larger wheel size, with a lower profile tire, can give you same overall height. Lots of variables in just that aspect. I checked on 16" tires in a lower profile that had same overall height as the 15" virgos with 205/60s.

Even a new, stock speedo does not even register the exact MPH. Speedos always have a "margin of error".

I found that out years ago. Most are 2-4 mph slow , or fast at most. The more the speedo wears, the further "off" it'll become.

And all this will vary from car to car. Mine is as close to spot on as one could expect according to my GPS. Of course I am sure there is probably a little error in GPSs too.

Slap your 14" tires back on & go have speedo checked. Since you'll not believe anything that anyone tells you here on TB, see for yourself.

And ..if you're going to argue a point, you should at least know what you're talking about.

Have a Nice Day.:)
