So I went to Green Ford on West Wendover Ave , Greensboro NC, to help my Mom pick out a new car.
She settled on a new 2014 Ford Fusion with the 2.0 L I4 EcoBoost engine and 6 spd auto trans (with the paddle shifter option, no less)
It is powered by a turbocharged 2.0L four cylinder with 240 hp. Not bad Ford....
BUT ,now to what this thread is really about........
And it is something I thought might interest some, if not all, of you TBers.............
And as some of you may already know.... I am somewhat of an old racing car/old race car history buff.
I find that *what has already been done and then, later, forgotten about in the automotive world* is sometimes just as interesting ,if not more so, as the newest and latest developments in the automotive world......,
While we were there I noticed the car pictured below, sitting roped off on the ShowRoom floor in the corner.
It's a 1912 Ford Model T "Speedster" race car from "back in the day"
This car was clocked at Humboldt Speedway in AZ at 118 mph.
The engine was hopped up with some of the "speed parts" that were available in 1912. And the diff modded as well.
Yep they had "speed parts" even in 1912 guys.....racing cars has been going on for quite some..... time ya know...
The Hi Perf Mods were:
1) Hog's head (diff) changed to slope door aluminum quick change hands (quick change diff gears no doubt)
2)Added Rajo High Compression Cylinder Head
3) Racing pistons, rods and crankshaft
4) 3 to 1 diff gear ratio
Whoever drove this car to 118 mph must have had a big set of brass cojones IMHO..and a lot of nerve to go with them
Pretty fast for a 1912 Ford Model T.... huh guys? We have to go back up there tomorrow...I'll see if I can get someone to open the hood and let me take pics of the engine to post here.......
I sure wish TrickMick was still here to see this thread.........I'm sure he probably could have shed more light and history to it...
PICS:
