Is it possible to cut front springs on an 88 764 without taking out the springs. IE: cutting while they are on the car in the air? What effect sould one coil cut have. I need a starter length to cut off, not a wild amount, just about tucking tire.

possible? yes
safe? no
post pics of the carnage...

(the spring is under considerable tension, even with the strut topped off)

You might be able to do it if you jack up the car so none of the tires are touching the ground.. But you're better off just taking it apart.

Another ghetto-tastic method is to just reachin there with a torch and get a section of the spring red hot, until it sags. Repeat as necessary until either you set the inner fender or strut on fire, or the desired ride height is achieved.
