Default Wheel seals wtf?

Anybody know why I can't get the right wheels seals for a 1986 740? Everyone I try to get is too large.

I had thought that most of those early 740 hubs and brakes were dealer replaced years ago. (One piece hub & disc)

There is a conversion kit to go to the more common later style hub, disc and bearing set. In fact if you went to a dealer that's all they would offer you.

I found a kit from napa with the old school tapered bearings and the larger (wrong) seal.

From Worldpac's catalog.......

If vehicle is still equipped with early-design one-piece hub/disc assembly,
use 1329820 front wheel seal.

For vehicles that have been updated with separate hub and brake disc,
use 3516135 wheel seal.

I didn't realize there are three different types of hub. I kept getting the seal for the one piece hub^

It looks like carquest has the right seal, fingers crossed.

I believe the kit is NLA, but all you need is the hubs from a later style 700 (before the changeover to a sealed hub bearing set, like on 900 cars) and the separate disc's. Wheel bearings and seals are the same as 200 cars after '83.

correct on the bearings . the rubber part of the seal is the same as a 240 , but the metal retaining ring has a smaller od.

from my findings about a month ago, everyone has the wrong listing for the seal that goes with the 740 hub without intergrated rotor. we got sets in from over 10 supliers and they all had the wrong od. i'll try and source them by dimension sometime soon.
