Just stick with a quality paper filter. Cheap and efficient.

I've never tried them, but after researching them more; sounds like a nice option instead of a paper element. Too bad they don't make any filters for Volvo pre-2007. :wtf:

Funny guys. Did I say what I was putting it in? No, I did NOT. I was asking if anybody has tried one, plain and simple. Already have K&N on the fleet, like the concept of woven cotton over gauze, but I'm also not in the market, just perusing the web.

They do have stuff for the earlier models, just gotta visit their UK site, since they are based over there.

To answer your original question, I have used Green filters (years and years ago) and they seemed to work similarly to K&N.

Regarding the concept as a whole, I have found a cheaper way than either to approximate the effect. What I do is I take off my stock filter and pour a cup of sand into the engine. Then I put the factory filter back on and continue driving. I get the same power and the same effective lack of filtration and it costs me almost nothing.

Will beach sand give me the same power increase as k&n filtered dirt? Like, is there a grain specification or tolerance or something like that? I would really like to get the correct sandblasting pattern in my cylinders to slowly increase bore.

I use a tiered system. I start with coarse sand, then skip the medium grit and go for the fine. I then polish it up with a special blend of silt and clay.

Figured this would turn into the normal ****show of suggestions with no factual representation, you guys do not disappoint.

96-98% filtration at 10 micron's on the green filter. Haven't been able to find actual specs on a paper filter thus far.

So, if you can QUANTIFY your suggestions with actual data, that's great, love to see it. If you're just going to SWAG it and say your OPINION is they suck, great.

Harald...suck it. I already said I'm not changing out the filter I already have in the car. Reading comprehension much?

Hey, hey, hey...I never implied you were going to get one. I just said their US counter-part is failing them as it looks on that website. I do admit the woven material is going to handle much better and last longer. They also made a good point about the rubber flowing far onto the filter element reducing surface area. Their numbers look good. I have never used one, just K&N. We need someone to test for us!

I went thru their website after you posted it and liked what I saw. I have been using a spectre air filter on the rallycross car because I had one on the shelf and knew that the engine was already toast. Now that I will be putting a newer/fresher engine in this weekend, that spectre filter has to go. I'll be ordering up one of these green filters.

I thought it was fairly well known that K&N filters flat out didn't filter? I've never seen a single test done by any independent organization that didn't come out to this conclusion. Speaking to a very notable engineer at Ford (notable enough to show up in magazines) over some beers, he told me that if a truck with his engine series gets a K&N filter and develops any debris-related engine malladies, it's an automatic warranty ender (and that was fairly unique to K&N). Their own internal testing showed a bare minimum 1000% difference in filtering effectiveness versus their standard paper filter (aka...best K&N performance at any point in time vs. worst for their own filter). That level of conclusiveness was enough to deny warranty claims without particular worry about Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act claims.

"One thing worth noting on here is in the difference of media. There was a wide variety tested, from fiber, synthetic fiber, gause, and foam. There were also oiled and dry variations of these medias as well. One thing I thought was interesting is that all the oiled media filters, regardless of what the media type was, performed worse than the dry filters. In fact, the last 4 filters on the chart, the pure one, fram, K&N, and Trueflow, are all of the oiled filters, the rest are all dry versions of various media materials. While with only a small sample size, we can't say that all oiled filters are worse than dry filters, but from the data we saw, it is worth noting their placement."

Perhaps the Green filters massively shake this up vs. K&N. When I was using them (I didn't pick them), I just figured they were a cheaper knock off of a K&N, given the similar design, construction, and materials.

When has excessive contamination ever caused an engine failure? I grew up around tractors where people used shirts with a rubber band for an air cleaner. Never saw any issues and I'm sure they don't filter nearly as well as a KN.

But tractors never work in dusty climates....unless the engine is running. Granted no high rpm, but the environment is 10-100x worse than most cars see. Still never pulled the head on dad's MF TO35 with a Perkins in it, and that has seen a crapload of work in its 65 years, a lot in extremely dusty conditions. It does also run an oilbath air filter setup.

I know the K&N doesn't do quiet as well as a paper, but without having either some specs or some indy lab tests, that's really hard to quantify.

J-Jones, please do let us know how ordering and fitment go, very curious. Their stateside website really doesn't help their business, but it looks like they have decent coverage across the pond.

Setup has been great...20 psi at 3000 on 4th gear. Boost control has been a bitch though. May add a bleeder valve to stabilize it.

Also, paper filters suck.
