Help me build up a rear end.

Nothing wrong with a 1030. They use standard Dana 30 ring and pinions (not TJ jeep ones though!). So if you want cheap ring and pinion options, hit up Rock Auto and grab a set for $125 new.

Yeah, all the bearings, races, seals, ring and pinion and diff are for a 1031. Plus it's the stronger axle. Might as well.

Fixed it for you. Housing are nearly identical and the axle shafts are the same (or can be swapped out to the later style ones).

No arguing the bigger R&P being a good thing. Luckily 1031s are easy to find.

I stopped by my builder to drop off the bearings and seals and I snapped some pics.

Rear end is definitely a 1030.

Pinion from the axle is on the left.

So thanks to 2manyturbos I got a 1041 and finally got an axle built up.

I do have a question about the filter in the 1041 diff cover though. Do I need that? Does it just keep the speed sensor free of contaminants? I'm not running the speed sensor in the diff.
