Late 9 series Tow Hitch

Will a factory tow hitch from a 97 S90 work on earlier 7/9 series wagon? The main square beam looks straight while the one on my 93 wagon has a curve to clear the spare wheel well. Looking form the Volvo parts diagram they list a hitch as 95 and later, was there a change in the rear body other than to accommodate for IRS?

They fit right in. The rear bumper changed and the hitch clears it without cutting the plastic. Doesn't affect the fitment on older cars.
 
If you're talking about one like this, I have one like this on my 97 940.
Skandix says it fits both 940 and S/V90.

I've been told the two designs weren't interchangeable... but never checked it out for myself

This is exactly what I pulled from a '97 S90 except the receiver tube is reinforced (2 layers of square steel tubing). I am far from sure that it's gonna work on my '93 945T but it's worth a try- I want to use my 2" Thule bike rack on the wagon.
