Another interesting tidbit about the Classic's - apparently the body assembly guys were initialling the cars as they went down the line. It's easier to see in the sedans, on the wagons it's under the rear cargo deck, but if you take off the right side cubby hole lid and look under the sound insulation mat at the front edge (in front of the fuel filler tube) you'll probably see something. Looks like they used a mig/tig or something to weld letters onto the sheet metal.
The theory on whether or not there were the *actual* last 1600 cars of the 240 production line runs hot and cold. Apparently there are some non-Classic cars with higher VIN numbers. But that doesn't necessarily mean the VIN's were always assigned sequentially. And the higher numbers aren't in close proximity to the Classic VIN range. I think the initials welded onto the cars is a pretty good hint that they might have been the last cars out, as they probably weren't tagging the whole last (half) year's production run of 240's.
Someone is very proud of theirs...

The general theory is that the cars were evenly split between sedans and wagons, and teal green and ruby red (both unique colors for the 240, but used on other later Volvo models).
